Lieberman
write what you want, and then I hope he dies a quick political death.

The truth of it is the voters spoke, and didn't want him to represent them any more.

Anything else is rubbish.

So.

Lieberman.

(respond to the name and the thoughts you may have behind it, but know that he is history, and now a distraction. Get it out of your system, and let's move on)

1. Youth Must Be Served
I listened to Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman on Lehrer tonight, each getting substantial space.

Ned Lamont sounds young, smart, energetic, fresh and thoughtful. He's not scared of talking about universal health care, economic stimulus, phased withdrawal from Iraq (what he said reminded me of Vietnamization, not a great memory, but what else is there to do?)

A YOUNG LION in the Democratic Party. How long since we've seen one?

Joe Lieberman, a loyal Democrat until this morning, sounded old, tired, not wise like Robert Byrd but flamed out like a dead campfire.

Lieberman sounded like yesterday's man. Ned Lamont sounded like a future Majority Leader.

One view from Los Angeles.

3. Joe's in love with the power of the office of Senator.
And arrogantly believes it belongs to him alone. ("the precious is mine... mine!")

He's in a bubble similar to his favorite fellow neo-con president. Unfortunately for him. It's kinda pathetic to watch him flailing about.

I really wonder if he's going to stick it out until November. Unless he gets major support from Repubs, it's going to be rough, I think.

The comparison on Newshour was very telling. Ned talked about the common good, felt needs, the people, the future. Joe talked about himself.

4. Unaware of His Self-Focus
Some experienced politicans seem to conclude it really IS all about ME.

I noticed the same thing you did - Lieberman is navel-gazing, talking about himself. Ned Lamont is talking about the People.

The People who have perished under the Bush Regency.

2. Well...
I would disagree with you that "he is history" and "voters spoke, and didn't want him to represent them any more". This is not true. He is still running as an Independent, much as people may not like it. He will no doubt get a lot of financial support from the Republicans, more than they will give the Repub candidate I am sure. The possible outcomes of this are many; on the one hand if Lieberman goes negative and goes negative hard and then Lamont counters with equally negative ads, the election could possibly swing in favor of the Republican candidate who, if he stays out of the fighting and just "works to improve our country" etc. might seem the better choice for middle of the road voters. The other possibility is that the Republican voting base abandons their nominee altogether and votes for Lieberman. Then he can still pick up fence-sitting votes as well as.. I would say maybe 25% of the Democrat vote as well.

So I don't think it is fair to say he is history.

Nor is it fair to say the voters don't want him in office. The people who voted yesterday were 50% of less than half of the voters in the state. While it is clear the Democrats do not want him, we will have to wait until November to see what the voters think.

For what it's worth though, most people should see him for what he is, a sore loser.
