Proud to be a Liberal "Extremist"

In reading about the MSM's attack of Ned Lamont's supporters as the "Angry Far Left", I've felt a deep sense of emotions build up in me. As only a sophomore in college, I was not alive during the journalism era led by Murrow, but I certainly have read and studied about it in my history classes. It was Murrow's bravery and courage that defined him as a true American hero, respectfully challenging Communist Witch Hunter McCarthy at his rediculous games.

As we've seen since 2000 (and perhaps even before, but me being a middle and elementary schooler prior to that, I was still in my Pokemon phase then!), the MSM has narrowed its existence to revolve around three main facets: rantings, ravings, and ratings. It's not who has the most accurate news coverage that is perceived as the best news; rather, it's the show with more bells and whistles, yelling and screaming that gets ratings, and in turn, more advertising dollars. As an example, how many people here watch CNBC all day - I doubt very few of you. But how many of you have watched at least one 7-10 minute segment of Kramer's "Mad Money" - I certainly have watched my share of segments on that show, not really to get any new so-called knowledge of the stock market, but because it's quite entertaining.

And thus is the reason for all of the coverage of the Lieberman-Lamont senate race. Lieberman has turned the whole race into a circus event lack of any dignity; the "Jerry Springer Show's" success of the same criteria has this make perfect sense.

But fellow liberals, we won't let this happen. We won't let this race continue to be a circus event. We endear our progressive values to the paramount level, and no one is going to stop us.


If wanting to spending the over $250 million a day budget for the Iraq War on domestic areas of dire need, such as Universal Health Care, College Education grant funding, and Social Security makes me a liberal "extremist", then I'm proud to be one.

If wanting to start a NASA-like magnatude renewable energy program in the pursuit of developing energy sources that are environment friendly, affordable, and reduce our constant battering by Big Oil makes me a liberal "extremist", then I'm proud to be one.

If wanting to protect our cherished Constitution from being trampled on by an overbearing *President makes me a liberal "extremist", then I'm proud to be one.

If supporting embryonic stem cell research, which offers grand opportunity and hope for people suffering from devastating diseases, makes me a liberal "extremist", then I'm proud to be one.

If taxing the wealthiest of Americans at an increased rate for the benefit of funding the above programs while moving toward reducing the national debt and lowering the tax burden on the working and middle classes makes me a liberal "extremist", then I'm proud to be one.

And finally, if wanting the best opportunities for all Americans and all humans in the world, not just the "privledged upper-class white Christians", through progressive policies of supporting peace, renewable energy technology, healthcare access for all, and the process of rational thinking for progressive change - the laymen's definition for the word "liberal" - makes me a liberal "extremist", then you better be sure I'm proud to be one.

I'm sure you are all proud to be liberal "extremists" too and I thank you for all of your support and leadership in moving this country and this world forward.
