I was a little discouraged w/so many threads presenting the RW spin on Lamont's victory. Granted, these threads voiced outrage over the RW spin, but it just feels like there are too many threads devoted to Snow jobs, instead of countering the BS. Borosage counters the BS quite well.

28. I just look for Barry Levinson
then I know there is a good chance it is about Baltimore. Got hooked on HLOTS a long time ago.

Besides, I love basketball and Maryland is one of my periennial favorites. I still think Juan Dixon deserved MVP instead of Jason Williams. If I recall correctly, Carmelo Anthony spent time in Baltimore too.

32. Don't you think we'll be bitching about Dems when we get control?
I know I bitch about my only Democratic congressional member (Dennis Moore 3CD, Kansas) fairly often. He's very moderate but at least he's keeping the more RW-fundie types that the KS GOP keeps offering up out of office. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

But I agree, I would love to have my country back. I want to spend more time kicking back and less time fretting about the idiot prince will or won't do next. I want college basketball season to start!

33. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 06:32 PM by MissWaverly
Afghanistan would have been resolved by now if we had stayed focused, the country would have
healed, instead things are only getting worse and our involvement in the Middle East
gets deeper and more risky for us every day. I wish I had a Democratic Majority to grumble
about, and I agree worrying who's going to make it to the finals instead of are we going
to have another terror attack sounds heavenly to me.

34. I'm one who believes 9/11 wouldn't have happened under Gore
I think the Clinton/Gore admin knew what they were doing. I still remember when Clinton okayed going after Osama and was excoriated for it.

I guess we'll spend most of the time trying to correct the media. I miss the days when the press was skeptical of anything the president did or said. Like these two articles from salon.com

BY DAVID CORN | WASHINGTON -- It took only a few minutes for one of the reporters in the Pentagon pressroom to ask Secretary of Defense William Cohen the question on many minds: "Have you seen the movie?" He was referring to "Wag the Dog" and the unsettling coincidence between Thursday's military strikes and a movie in which political fixers concoct a war to distract public attention from a presidential sex scandal.

Cohen adopted a steely expression as he replied, "The only motivation driving this action today was our absolute obligation to protect the American people."

But cynicism could not be avoided. I was eating lunch with a prominent Republican official when his office called to inform him of the Clinton-ordered attacks on terrorist installations in Afghanistan and a supposed chemical-weapons factory in Sudan. The official immediately asked the caller, "Is CNN airing video footage of a young girl running with a kitten?" -- a direct reference to a scene in the film. He got up to leave, noting, "Clinton will do anything to get away from Hillary."

It's inevitable. After what seems a week of media elites venting about The Speech -- and it's only been three days! -- nothing Bill Clinton says can be taken at face value in this town. Some of us have long believed he is a fellow not to be trusted, based on his policy decisions on campaign finance reform, global warming, budget politics, Lani Guinier, welfare legislation, mass murder in Rwanda and other matters. But now the core of Washington's ruling class appears to have turned on the man, as well. Did Bill wag the dog?

BY CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS On Aug. 20, President Clinton personally ordered the leveling of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant on the outskirts of Khartoum. More or less simultaneously, another flight of cruise missiles was dropped on various parts of Afghanistan and also -- who's counting? -- Pakistan, in an apparent effort to impress the vile Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden, of course, hopes to bring a "judgmental" monotheism of his own to bear on these United States, and is thus in some peoples' minds a sort of Arab version of Ken Starr.

Sources in U.S. Intelligence apparently claimed that there was only one "window" through which to strike at bin Laden, and that the only time they could hope to hit his Afghan fastness by this remote means was on the night of Monica Lewinsky's return to the grand jury. Let's assume they were correct. After all, they helped build and equip his camps and they may know something we don't (even if they ended up missing him). Furthermore, the hideous Taliban regime is not available for the receiving of diplomatic notes, has even executed some Iranian envoys and seems in other ways to be deaf to shame. They bomb pharmacies, don't they?

35. Yes, then there was the Supreme Court
who in the Paula Jones case said that it was their duty to constantly monitor the Executive
Branch for illegal behavior. Now of course they were talking about a Democratic president,
can anyone remind them that the ABA has found a major problem with the constitutionality of the
Executive Branch under Bush because of the signing statements. They probably got the memo because they're still dues paying members of the ABA.

for one thing Bush is constantly drunk even my sister said that she was shocked by his
behavior at the G-8, she said that when Tony Blair entered Parliament, every MP shouted
Yo' Blair. We are the laughingstock of the world.

38. They are
I live in Kansas. Before the election last week the moderate GOP candidates for the state Board of Education slots said, if they lost, they would work for the Democratic candidates because they are tired of the fundie wing getting their candidates in office. Some of them did lose and they are working for the Democratic candidates. Some of them are also defecting their party saying it doesn't reflect their values anymore.

LOL, about Bush being drunk. I remember watching Boris Yeltsin drunkenly dance on stage. I felt compassion for how the Russian felt seeing their leader make an ass of himself. These days, when I see Bush, I remember that at least Boris could sober up by the next morning. I don't think Bush can get any brighter, even if he wanted to.
