9/11 conspiracy theorists energized - Vote here!

(AP) -- Kevin Barrett believes the U.S. government might have destroyed the World Trade Center. Steven Jones is researching what he calls evidence that the twin towers were brought down by explosives detonated inside them, not by hijacked airliners.

These men aren't uneducated junk scientists: Barrett will teach a class on Islam at the University of Wisconsin this fall, over the protests of more than 60 state legislators. Jones is a tenured physicist at Brigham Young University whose mainstream academic job has made him a hero to conspiracy theorists.

Five years after the terrorist attacks, a community that believes widely discredited ideas about what happened on September 11, 2001, persists and even thrives. Members trade their ideas on the Internet and in self-published papers and in books. About 500 of them attended a recent conference in Chicago, Illinois.

4. All theories, or just some?
I think some parts of some of the theories have value, but not all of them. And, of course, the biggest problem is that many people ARE capable of keeping secrets.

Obviously, there's a LOT of unanswered questions about 9-11. I think that the Powers That Be like it that way.

I don't have any "favorite" theory; I have no theory at all, in fact. But I've learned not to scoff. After all, people do conspire. And sometimes, those conspiracies have lethal consequences.

5. 70% Yes--This is a surprising result but I'm not surprised.
Pardon the oxymoronic statement, but I know a whole helluva lot of ordinary Americans who find LIHOP or MIHOP to be credible theories.

Has anybody dared to ask this question in a "scientific" poll--one where the results can't be explained away as easily as these internet polls can?

6. Done.
The real question should have been 'Do you believe the official gov't version of the events of 9/11?'

8. Done.
how can you not have a "theory" of your own, unless you really don't use your brain. Ya see.... there is the "official" 9-11 theory, then there are all other theories....

The problem here is, the "official" theory is as credible as all the other ones, so why are all other ones dismissed? Something smells funny, and it isn't my breath.

15. I'd like to know....
if it might be some sort of standard procedure to place explosives in tall buildings so that they can be "pulled" in situations such as this so that they are not a danger to surrounding buildings. Witness the one WTC building owner/manager who mentioned the decision was made to "pull" one of the buildings. If so, I would not want to have office space in one of those buildings.

16. Seeing as how a steel structure building had never
collapsed due to fire, I can't imagine placing explosives in tall buildings would be a "standard" procedure.

The building you're talking about is WTC 7, which the owner said was "pulled" but has since denied that "pulling" meant implode it. He says that "pulling" meant getting all the firefighters out of the building in case it collapsed.

17. In all fairness...
I have seen a fairly thorough explanation about how the type of outer skeleton steel structure used in the WTC towers was particularly prone to collapse when there is a high temperature fire, as can occur when a lot of jet fuel is burning. Other similar steel structures, it is reported, have collapsed in similar types of fires. (Of course, this type of steel structure is no longer used). It was also argued in some detail how the height of the building could cause a pancaking effect to occur as the upper floors began collapsing. Whether this is entirely true, I cannot say, and also there seems to be evidence of explosions occuring in the basement floors prior to the collapse.
