Lieberman advisor confirms Rove called Lieberman last night

From: http://www.tnr.com/blog/theplank?pid=30176

Even given Lieberman's generally good relations with the White House, this seemed hard to believe. So we asked Lieberman advisor Dan Gerstein, who had this to say:

Not true. Rove made a personal call, no help was offered, and we are not interested regardless.

1. I figured as much
Rove's not going to help anyone that is as far left as Joe Lieberman.

4. You don't think what's important is that he DID call and the adviser
is spinning it? Of course they are going to help him and of course they will accept the help! It's just that they don't want it known...

6. Why would Rove do that?

There is no benefit in it for the Republicans, Lieberman will still vote for Democratic majority leader if he retains the seat.

8. To show that the war proponent can triumph in the end, and because
they'd rather deal with him than Lamont. I thought it was quite obvious.

2. That "Not true" is totally based on wording of the question posed.
If one little detail were amiss, he'd be saying that without lieing, sort of.

Of course, he could be totally lieing, too. Except about Rove calling.

I supported Joe waaaaay back in the day (I will admit it). Now I don't know who Joe Lieberman is.

5. KKKarl Rove to Lieberman: "Step one Joe, fire your entire staff"
"Step two, let our people handle the responses to your critics"

"Step three, shut the fuck up!"

10. Does anyone think Joe would admit to an offer of help?
I'm surprised he admitted to the call at all.

12. Makes sense politically.

Lieberman is now essentially cut off from the democrats and many of his friends there. Time for Rove to make a new friend.

If Lieberman doesn't hold a grudge and is true to his word, when(big IF) he wins the general election he will continue to vote as he has in the past.

If Lieberman *DOES* hold a grudge, and remembers who abandoned him, he very well may vote more often with those who offer him encouragement, even if it is miniscule and self serving. Might actually be the cheapest vote rove ever bought.

Defeating Lieberman again is now even more important. we just made it so.
