Mexico, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) One hundred and twenty seven magistrates designated by the Electoral Court of the Mexican Judicial Power (TEPJF), are beginning Wednesday a vote recount in 11,839 polling booths in 26 Mexican states. Besides the judges, the president and secretary of the district council plus a representative of each coalition or political party can take part in that operation, which will be carried out non-stop for five days.
TEPJF s decision to count only nine percent of the 130,477 nationwide voting tables of the July 2 presidential elections is not in line with the vote-by-vote demand of the For the Good of All coalition. Faced with an ostensible electoral fraud, that opposition alliance presented evidence of ballots with irregularities and errors that could affect 1.5 million votes cast in favor of candidate Felipe Calderon, from the ruling national Action Party (PAN).
But the electoral court is only challenging votes in 230 electoral districts. That action was applauded by PAN, private companies unions and most of the media but spurned by independent unions and popular bodies. The TEPJF has the final say on this matter: validate or not the elections and declare the president-elect before September 6.
