50% Voter Turnout in Connecticut for Senate Race?
Is this correct? From http://www.sots.ct.gov/ElectionsServices/election_results/statistics/enrolhst.pdf

It says as of 2004, there were 670,356 registered democrats in Connecticut. If that is true, then last night's vote produced over 300,000 voters who voted in the Senate primary race between Lamont and Lieberman.

That's nearly FIFTY PERCENT! If so, I think we can imagine that we are not talking about an angry extreme left who ousted Lieberman but rather a Democratic party who knows what it wants and who is passionate enough to get out and vote for it.

1. I know...
Joe and the talking heads (should be a band name) keep saying that is wasn't that much of a mandate because few people vote in primaries. MY ASS! That is pretty damned good!!! Better than primaries in most states.

2. The extreme left is yet another Rovian myth........
The majority of Americans want what the so-called extreme left endorses.

3. I've heard from 40% (most say that) to 55% (SOS prediction yesterday)
I think the final tally wound up closer to 40%, according to today's news. But even if that is correct, it is still a HUGE turnout in an August primary. In ANY primary. Largest turnout CT has had since 1994, I believe.

4. Bingo!!
And all this trash talking about last night's results being the result of a "fringe" element or extremists is B.S. !! Getting 52% of the Democratic vote in a primary in which 50% of the elible voters went to the polls is not the kind of numbers you get from some extremist fringe faction. That 52% is the meat and potatoes of the Democratic Party in Connecticut and they're sending a message loud and clear: NO MORE BUSINESS AS USUAL!!!

5. 300/670 == 44.8%
So, it's not even close to 50%. But it *is* a record turnout for a primary.

6. 43% turnout -- highest ever in the state of CT
According to a Dem Party event showing now on CSPAN, per their SOS's speech. Dodd and their congressman (didn't catch his name) endorsing Lamont, putting Lieberman's loss behind them -- also noted in their speeches.
