FBI on Joe's "Hacked" Site: MAY PURSUE CHARGES IF CLAIM IS FALSE!!!!
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001306.php

'Importantly, Straretz noted that if Lieberman "hacking" charges prove false, the FBI and federal prosecutors could pursue charges against those who reported them. "If it was fabricated and you could prove intent, there's Title 18, Section 1001, which is providing false statements to an FBI agent. That can be prosecuted at the discretion of the U.S. Attorney's Office."'

blame your opponent.

3. LOL! That was the first thing that came to mind.
Which is kind of why my second thought was either Karl or one of the College Republicans signed up to work for Joe.

5. It crashed from lack of bandwidth.
All these people like me from all over the place tried to go to it & since it was on a little server with 73 other accounts, it couldn't hack (no pun intended) it!

...
Mr. Geary said that claims by Lamont supporters that the site was being run by a single, inexpensive computer were also inaccurate. He said that he had contracted with a Dallas-based Web company, Server Matrix, as the host of Joe2006.com. Executives at Server Matrix did not return phone calls seeking comment.

And yet, yesterday, folks here did ip lookups of joe2006.com and the other 74 odd sites and found they all resolved to the same ip address.

8. that will be tough. they can always claim incompetence
as a defense. They were wrong in their belief that they were hacked due to incompetence. After all, they were serving their site from a server with 70+ other sites with a $15/month plan.

9. Maybe Joe was really so popular that his supporters
swamped the server and brought it down. If they had wanted to turn it to Lieberman's benefit that is what they should have said.

11. Then they can go after the false terror report in Warren County, Ohio.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 02:13 PM by Straight Shooter
Oh. Wait. That's too serious for the FBI to get involved in.

I doubt if they'll do anything about this, either.

edit: (the false terrorism report during the presidential election that helped steal it for bush, as the votes were "counted" in secret)

of teh terror alert, but the FBI said ti did no such thing.

22. You have to wonder if Lamont might have won by a larger margin
if the accusation hadn't happened. Who's to say people intending to vote didn't hear it and think "more of the same" and stayed home? The entire event sounds strikingly similar to the New Hampshire phone jamming scheme and we know where that came from.

but they probably won't. They'll claim it was all a "misunderstanding". More like a dirty tactic to make your opponent look sleazey and dishonest. Roves smell is all over this one.

It might have been a big enough whipping, for Joe to have seen that running as an indie would be a waste of time and money.
