Bush popularity increases in N.H. poll - "conservatives are back on board"
Bush popularity increases in N.H. poll
August 9, 2006

DURHAM, N.H. --President Bush's job approval ratings have rebounded in New Hampshire, but the war in Iraq and the economy continue to hold him back, a new poll shows.

After reaching an all-time low of 30 percent in April, the president's approval ratings rose to 39 percent in the latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

The improvement mirrors national polls which now show 40 percent approve of the job Bush is doing as president, said Survey Center Director Andrew Smith.

"Bush's rebound has happened, in large part, because conservatives are back on board," he said.

"In April, only 46 percent of conservatives said they approved of the job Bush was doing," Smith said. "Now, 69 percent of conservatives approve."

The war is a weak spot.

2. 39% and 40% are a rebound?
Those are terrible numbers. This President is in serious trouble. The media can spin this all they want but 40% as a high for the year is awful.

11. I look at these polls this way...
I think we all agree that 30-35% of Americans will approve of Bush no matter what-well I use that number to calculate a new approval percentage.

In this case I take the polling number and subtract 30. That's just 9% of the rest of Americans that approve.

IOW,

30% - Lost, Clueless, Dumb as shit, sheep following Republicans.
9% - Approve of Bush (easily fooled, uninformed, apathetic, and ignorant)
61% - Disapprove of Bush

4. So my q. is..
.. what on earth has Bush done to bring them back on board?

The article doesn't say, just posts a lot of numbers.

I do not get it... unless the poll, the spin, and all of it is a
media creation.

5. no one is popular at 39%, this is spin
if your kid received a 39% score on a test, would you say gee, that's a great improvement,
last time you had 30%. No, you would say, you are still flunking the course, time for a tutor.

13. Bush's popularity or (or not) is meaningless. He's running against no one.
When his popularity has been down, the GOP candidates carefully distance themselve from him on key issues in the districts. Focus on local politics.

14. I'm wondering who they surveyed.
Can't be anyone around here. The general reaction even among 5th generation Repubs is at best an eye roll, at worst spitting.

Maybe my cynicism is red lining, but it seems these pollsters know who to call to get the results they want. For example, during the '00 campaign yours truly was polled several times and being a Yellow Dog and working class liberal my answers were consistently slightly left of center, especially for this neck of. Then, I was polled once during the '04 and that's it. So, I'm thinking they literally got my number and don't want me and other like minded skewing the results.

16. So maybe he can crawl all the way back up to
where Clinton's very lowest approval-ratings trough was.

C'mon, Chimpy, you can do it! just stay out of trouble for a few months, and maybe you'll manage a glorious 41%!
