KERRY: "It’s time for all Democrats to come together to support Lamont"
Kerry endorses Lamont over Lieberman in general election

RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday August 9, 2006

United States Senator John Kerry (D-MA) today came out in support Ned Lamont's bid to be the next Senator from Connecticut, RAW STORY has learned.

Calling the result of the vote, "a strong statement about the current course in Iraq," Kerry has "strongly" endorsed Lamont over current Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman.

"I’ve worked with Joe Lieberman since our days in college together," Kerry said in a statement today, "and I respect his many contributions to our public life. But the Democratic Party stands for something, and the Democratic Party in Connecticut has made a choice."

"The events of the past months make even more clear," Kerry added, "the differences Democratic leadership would make for our country on Iraq, in making America safer, in having an economy that works for everyone, and in achieving energy independence. That’s who we are as Democrats, and that’s what we’ll be fighting for. It’s time for all Democrats to come together to support Ned Lamont. It’s time for Democrats to unite.”

1. The Democratic Party in Connecticut has made a choice
Couldn't say it any clearer than that. I don't think Lieberman will be receiving any support from establishment Democrats, and with the stink of loserdom on him, voters in Connecticut will no longer perceive him as their Senator, a perception that is very strong.

I think in the immediate aftermath of a close loss Lieberman has said many brave things for the benefit of his disappointed supporters about running as an independent. As the shock fades, and the political realities become clearer, I see Lieberman dropping his independent run and quietly going into retirement.

9. Schumer I am not so sure about
He has spent a ton of time and money railroading liberal candidates out of races already this year, he certainly isn't going to vocally support an anti-war liberal now after pulling all that other shit.

10. he's already released a statement supporting lamont
he has no choice, really. He certainly can't vocally oppose the party nominee.

11. Pressured to do so, but he opposes Ned Lamonts everywhere else
If it wasn't for him, we'd have a lot more Ned Lamont's running in the general elections all over the country. He and his DSCC have hurt our party more than he is worth.

He might have supported Lamont because there was pressure to do so but he has shown not a single bit of willingness to support other Lamonts or liberals anywhere else. Anyone with a "pull out of Iraq" position has seen the DSCC roll in their army and money for their primary centrist opponents in states nationwide.

Screw Schumer.

3. Man, I can't help but wonder
How frosty things are going to be between all these democratic senators and Joe until Joe leaves office next January. Will Joe give them the silent treatment? Will the democrats feel funny having him hanging around and avert their eyes when they pass him in the hall?

Fortunately for Joe, he still has just over 5 months of being able to go to Bush for reassuring hugs while he cries on Bush's shoulder.

8. "and in achieving energy independence."
This should be the ball we play with. IOW take the ball and run with it. We need to stress Alternative Energy at every opportunity. It will not only help get the US off foreign oil dependence it will help save the planet itself...
