Letter from Michael Moore: Bye Bye Joe!
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 10:02 AM by Generic Other
Friends,

Let the resounding defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman send a cold shiver down the spine of every Democrat who supported the invasion of Iraq and who continues to support, in any way, this senseless, immoral, unwinnable war. Make no mistake about it: We, the majority of Americans, want this war ended -- and we will actively work to defeat each and every one of you who does not support an immediate end to this war.

Nearly every Democrat set to run for president in 2008 is responsible for this war. They voted for it or they supported it. That single, stupid decision has cost us 2,592 American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. Lieberman and Company made a colossal mistake -- and we are going to make sure they pay for that mistake. Payback time started last night.

I realize that there are those like Kerry and Edwards who have now changed their position and are strongly anti-war. Perhaps that switch will be enough for some to support them. For others, like me -- while I'm glad they've seen the light -- their massive error in judgment is, sadly, proof that they are not fit for the job. They sided with Bush, and for that, they may never enter the promised land.

To Hillary, our first best hope for a woman to become president, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you continue to support Bush and his war. I'm sure someone has advised you that a woman can't be elected unless she proves she can kick ass just as crazy as any man. I'm here to tell you that you will never make it through the Democratic primaries unless you start now by strongly opposing the war. It is your only hope. You and Joe have been Bush's biggest Democratic supporters of the war. Last night's voter revolt took place just a few miles from your home in Chappaqua. Did you hear the noise? Can you read the writing on the wall?

To every Democratic Senator and Congressman who continues to back Bush's War, allow me to inform you that your days in elective office are now numbered. Myself and tens of millions of citizens are going to work hard to actively remove you from any position of power.

If you don't believe us, give Joe a call.

Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. Republicans -- sorry to leave you out of this letter. It's just that our side has a little housecleaning to do. We'll take care of you this November.

2. I got that
I must say it is good to hear from him. It must be nice after being slammed by a supposedly liberal media every time he opens his mouth (what irony is this?)to take a break from it. I know while he makes movies he gets kind of quiet, but we miss his voice. It is always great to hear him.

It seems like the fact that Moore can't go on the corporate media without getting slammed would clue some people in that the media is not liberal, but just a tool of corporations. It is no wonder, since his whole career has been to bash the negative effect that corporations and the government's complicity with them, has on Americans. While Moore is just a smart liberal, they like to portray him as some sort of fringe element of the looney-left, as they certainly would never do anything that would actually show him to be making any sense.

3. The Michael Moore wing of the party represents the mainstream
more than Joe did. Mainstream Dems HATE Bush and his war. Without exception.

27. F-ck Michael Moore! I applaud the Lamont victory but why
doesn't he take some responsibility for his Nader support before pointing the fingers at our former standard bearers? Both Kerry and Edwards have been man enough to admit their mistakes, something Mr. Moore seems inacpable of.This statement is divisive and a disgrace. He is no better than Lieberman.

6. Except, Moore isn't an elected official.
He makes movies. If he supports X, and then says he prefers Y, he has that right. He's changing his mind. People do it all the time. But, if people wanted X, assumed he also supported X, elected him to some office where he can bring about X, and then said he said he preferred Y, then you have a quandary. That's what a good deal of Connecticut voters faced. A lot of those same voters who voted Lamont yesterday kept Lieberman in office for 18 years as well. Are you waiting for their mea culpa, too?

Plus, if you recall during the 2004 election, Moore and Bill Maher both pleaded with Nader to not run. Sure, maybe some Monday morning quarterback action, but it's a start, right?

10. Michael Moore influences people. I think he is a moron. He uses celebrity
to say stupid things. He advised people to vote for Nader. He said there was no difference between Gore and Bush. If not for the interference of people like Moore, we wouldn't have ever had Bush as president and this war wouldn't have happened. He is a hypocrite.Sure he begged Nader not to run in 2004, but then it didn't matter. The voters of Connecticut gave us their mea culpa with their vote.We need our Democrats united and Moore is advocating divisiveness. He is no better than Lieberman.

13. Why is it that none of our heroes are good enough
Save the vitriol for the likes of Bush.

Funny how all the people on our side are so "flawed." Cindy Sheehan, Cynthia McKinney, Michael Moore, Al Sharpton, Howard Dean, etc.
No matter what they say, some on DU insist we must hate them.

I reserve my hatred for the GOP and its collaborateurs.

14. Actually we agree. Why is no one good enough for Moore?
The thing I dislike about Moore is that he doesn't save his "vitriol" for Bush but goes after all our Dems that aren't as "pure' as he thinks they should be, when he has no reason to boast himself. We must unite behind ALL our Dems this november, not a chosen few.

16. No we don't agree
Moore has aimed his immense guns in Bush's direction more than most of our elected Democratic leadership combined. F9-11 turned the tide on support for Bush's war. How much of Bush's fall in the polls is due to Moore's influence? Michael Moore exposed the truth, and even mainstream America woke up from their torpor long enough to pay attention (albeit belatedly). Moore has been a damn sight more critical of Bush than ex-Dems like Joe Lieberman or Hillary.

Keep alienating the left in the name of party unity, and you will end up with another repug in the WH in 2008. The left is the center of the party.

the Lieberman of the left! Joe made me sick with his anti Dem remarks and so does Moore. I don't support blind alligence but I do support any Dem over a Repuke, even if I have to choke. I would have a hard time voting for Casey in PA and I might not vote if I lived there but it is imperative that we take back the majority and we must be united to do that!

9. Actually he--and I--admitted that we were wrong about Nader...
Well before the 2004 elections, Moore switched his party affiliation from Green to Kerry and begged Nader on the Bill Maher show to drop out of the race. I, too, voted for Nader in 2000 and have sinced admitted that I was "correct," but wrong. Nader is correct that the Democratic party has failed to heed its call and hold steadfast to its liberal principles. He was correct in that the Democrats had abandoned its commitment to the Little Guy, instead becoming a champion of the corporate special interests. And Nader was correct that the Democratic party refused to take the Bush administration to task for its lies and evil deception. But, we were ALL wrong to support Nader realizing that doing so would dip into Gore votes in Florida and give the election to Bush (even though it was stolen). If Nader was not running, many of his votes would have gone to Gore, making it nearly impossible for the other side to steal or question.

So, yes, please try and forgive Moore and people like me. Really, he has been correct and RIGHT on many things. Nearly every point that he made in "F911" turned out to be true.

Give credit where credit is rightfully due...

So if you and Moore can be forgiven for letting Bush take office in the 1st place, then why cant Kerry and Edwards be forgiven for their IWR vote?

18. Kerry, Edwards are forgiven...
And as far as I know, it is obvious that Moore has forgiven them, too, as he supported the Kerry-Edwards ticket in 2004. I also worked the Kerry campaign in Florida in 2004 and saw voter disenfranchisement with my own two eyes. So although I'm angry at Kerry for not fighting hard enough--and so was Edwards, according to some--I have still come to see him as a fighter on the important issues of the day. I also forgave Gore and believe that he is looking more presidential.

So why can't many of you anti-Nader, anti-third party people accept our apology and forgive us, too? You must admit that we were right on a host of issues.

15. You Nader Whiners get are sickening
The best way to get rid of Green Party candidacies is for Democrats to actually include all of their positions in their platforms, then when they get elected and in power again, to actively work toward them. The Green Party will disappear after that.

There are about 80 million people out there who don't see much of anything in either right-wing party to vote for. When they see the democrats actually addressing issues at every turn that concern them, then we will never have a problem again. You should thank Nader and the Greens. He is partially responsible for everything positive that is happening now with democrats.

Besides, we didn't lose in Florida because of Nader, we lost because of Kathy Harris, and electioneering. Gore won, Gore got screwed. It had nothing to do with Nader, and the part of the democratic party that keeps attacking Moore, and in doing so the other Green Party voters, are doing themselves a disservice. Back that Democratic Party up to the Green Party boat and hook us up to that old trailer hitch. But you've got to back up into liberal land first.

Bottom line is that Gore couldn't even win his own state. And yes, Kerry allowed Bush to get away with a shitload of misinformation and outright lies. The Dems have abandoned their liberal principles and look where it's gotten us? NOWHERE! Being Repug-lite hasn't won us any elections, and the more "rightward" we go, the more Americans see us and the Repugs as one and the same. Why not reclaim our liberal heritage, embrace it? Ned did...and guess what? He won when everyone--including the acquiescent media--counted him out. The fact that he beat a popular sitting incumbent, the Repugs neocon fascists, and a cheerleading, corporate media says quite a lot.

Americans are yearning for a Democratic party who speaks for them! Look at every poll and survey out today! Most Americans agree with US!!! Not them!!!Don't believe in this fallacy that Dems have to move to the right in order to win elections. It didn't work in 1994; it didn't work in 2000, or 2002, or 2004...and it won't work in 2006!!

We cannot allow the Repug party to DEFINE us in 2006!! It must stop today! Then, only then, will the Greens, other third parties, and the majority of Americans (who outnumber Repugs in party affiliation nearly 2 to 1), return to us.

26. That's true...
I misspoke about that, since NH tends to vote Red statewide but not necessarily in the general elections. Still, both Gore and Kerry ran dismal campaigns in my view, regardless of nature. If they had just captured the hearts and minds of a few more Naderites, there would not have been this discrepancy at all. Can't blame Nader for everything; some of the fault lies with these poor Democratic challengers. There's no way that Bush should have won anything!
