E.J. Dionne just said "talk that Repugs crossed over to vote for McKinney
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 09:37 AM by KoKo01
in Georgia. He was talking about the loss of McKinney last night on Diane Rheem's show.

So, what does that tell you? If Repugs crossed over to vote for McKinney then then one could make a connection that she was provoked by them for the DC Incident and other incidents that ticked her off. McKinney is a fighter and strong in her principles. Repugs wanted her gone. Pelosi wanted her gone (and when your own House Leader doesn't like you it makes you a little paranoid and jumpy).

Dionne also says that Repugs in Connecticut could cross over to Lieberman just to raise trouble for the Democratic Party. I hope Dodd urges him to drop his bid to run as a Dem.

1. In CT, the Repukes had to be careful
not to give too many votes to Lieberman, so that he would not actually win it ... they wanted a split vote all along, to watch Lamont get eviscerated by Lieberman and keep their hands clean ...

2. Lieberman is taking a big chance though. Could get stripped of his
Committee Assignments by Reid if he runs as an Indie. Whether Repugs help elect him over Lamont in November, Lieberman as an Indie will be a stripped shell. He'd be better off just giving up and taking that "big bucks lobbying job" that he would be offered.

3. Republicans had no say in Ned's win. We have closed primaries.
And you had to switch affiliations months ago, long before Joe was in any kind of serious trouble from Ned. Nope. You can't factor Republicans into Ned's win unless you believe they were incredibly prescient, and didn't even care about voting in their own primary, which was also yesterday.

5. No, you are completely wrong.

29,000 new democratic registrations. 10,000 of those were Indi to Democrat switchers. Your numbers are WAY off.

And republicans were not allowed to switch affiliations after May 10, I believe, way back when no one thought Ned could pull it off. Why would a republican switch party affiliation (which shut him out of his own party's primary) before he felt there was any need to do so? The only people allowed to switch after May were Indi's. First timers could obviously register any way they wanted.

6. Everything has changed now though.
Lieberman is the black sheep everywhere he goes.

If you help him, it's dirty money and you get dirty right along with it.
