EUREKA...is Joe's campaign cash the only reason for his indi run?
THIS POST just made me realize...Joe has a shitload of cash left over. Two million dollars isn't chump change. He HAS to use it. He can't keep it. He can't spend it on other things. He has to either roll it over into another campaign or...what? Does it have to be returned to the original donors? Maybe it's "somewhere else" on the books, and he doesn't have any other way to cover his tracks. But it just strikes me as odd that such a whining chump could have such a massive ego that he'd undertake an indi run in the face of what he's gone through. But you know what? I think he has to. He can pay his wife and best friends some nice salaries, keep churning the dough. Something. Something about this isn't right. Lots of money makes people do batshit crazy things. Maybe Joe's just doing it for the cash, and nothing else. Because he has to. Use it or lose it.

Any thoughts?

1. I think you get to keep the cash. Think Kerry and his $50 million
He didn't give that back nor did he use it to mount a major recount effort.

I think you do get to keep the money. Anyone know for sure?

I think Joe just wants to get as many millions as possible and then invest in missiles to blow up little Arab children. He seems the kind.

2. I think you're right. As far as I know, a candidate can keep any
leftover money.

I don't think in Joe's case it has anything to do with money, I think it's hubris! I think he's going to have to drop out befor ethe middle of Oct, but right now, he thinks he can win!

6. Sure, when Hell freezes over!
It's all about Joe and Joe will not share. Do you think for even a moment that he even likes the Democratic Party? Joe loves Joe and only Joe.

Joe Joe Joe you need to go go go!

5. I seem to remember in past races, the loser (or the winner) can only
use the leftover money for future campaigns: he/she CANNOT just 'pocket' the dough. So your idea, to me, makes sense.

8. I know you used to could keep it in Louisiana, you just had to pay

taxes on it. But then the "pretty good government" and "good government" people wanted to make all kinds of rules.

for an honest crook to make a living!

Thanks for the laugh!

10. That's what I thought. It makes no sense that they could keep it.
Why not just run for office, raise a shitload of money, run a half-assed campaign you intend to lose, and go home with your leftover campaign cash instead of having to rent an apartment in DC and actually work? No way. No one would want to get elected, but everyone would run.

12. Did you know Joe raised 1.3 million in the last 15 days?
The largest was 12,600. Matt at mydd did a breakdown and looks at just who contributed to joe in these last days. Wonder if the influencing of joe is worth them tossing more cash at Lieberman. You can look at it here:
