Zell is the obvious choice. I also think that Blanco should be fairly high on our list.

8. she does piss me off, but Feinstein has been
behind election reform and sponsoring a bill that is going to go through congress to help stop the "diebold" effect.

29. Our phone calls
and e mails also managed to persuade her to filibuster Alito, two weeks after she told the Washington Post she wouldn't, much to my surprise. And she's always been a strong supporter of choice as well. Not my favorite Dem, but can be persuaded to listen to her constituents every once in a while. It would be nice if Lamont's victory tonight sends her a strong message.

5. we need to get a great candidate down there in Louisiana
I was so grossed out by Nagin's win and to see today that they are having an anniversary party Katrina, why not spend the money on rebuilding peoples lives instead of having a party.

22. They don't have to rebuild as much, people aren't coming back

unless you think New Orleans should have the most roads and infrastructure of any 150,000 person city in America.

but it ain't gonna happen in November. He's a lock. Hopefully, someone will run against him in the primary in 2008.

He's another one of the Cook County Nepocrats.....

As maddening as Landrieu is, I am afraid the Repukes can take her seat.

23. Jindal is supposed to be running for Governor
Richard Baker, after the attention he got for his rebuilding plan, would be a strong candidate. They could lose again if she helps get the oil money bill passed and the GOP runs another Woody Jenkins. Mary will be cast as "more liberal than Ted Kennedy" no matter what she does and the idiots down here will eat it up with a spoon. I don't really want her to lose but I won't shed any tears. And...if she does not stand with Lamont, I will not vote for her in 2008.

18. Would you people concentrate on eliminating the Pugs, PLEASE!!!!!
I understand Joe, and I'm glad he's just about done, but 06 is NOT the time to be working on eliminating Dinos. )* maybe, but the most important thing right now is to take back the majority! None of us are going to agree with every Dem all the time, and everyone has to understand that!

If you listened to any of the Ct. callers on cspan, you heard them say they didn't believe Joe was representing "Their wishes" anymore. That means if you get ticked off at Nelson from Fl, but HIS constituents want him to vote the way he does, then THAT'S what he should be doing.

Not all, but most of the Primaries are over. Now we have to work to get Dems elected!

Except that this person faces a similar challenge as did Lieberman. This person has been a long-time "Democrat" but has betrayed the party, IMO, in much the same manner as did Lieberman.

And I hope this person loses hard because this particular person is not only a sad statement on what this party stands for, but can do significant damage to the party for years to come. And that's why Republicans want this person to do well.

edited for grammar

Zell's been gone for quite some time. He retired in '04. He was replaced by Johnny Isakson who beat Denise Majette (who replaced McKinney for two years before she decided to run for the senate).

32. I think Carper may be a decent choice
He hasn't a very impressive record. He whores for Bush on many issues.

The problem is, I don't advocate the method taken against Joe in too many other cases. This strategy would likely not work very well in red states like AR, LA, and NE. I'd love to see Landreiu or Ben Nelson actually be held accountable for her crappy Bush-agenda-voting, but let's face it, many of these states are not going to vote Dem unless the candidate appeals to their personality - and that hasn't been too often recently. Notice how many open races we've lost recently in the south. The only reason we held on to them was popular incumbent senators, and that too they kept being voted in because they were likable.

Lieberman was an unusual case and I don't think we'll see this being reproduced elsewhere on a large scale.
