With 83.56% of the vote reported, Lieberman needs 75% of remaining votes
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 09:42 PM by berni_mccoy
U.S. Senate - - Dem Primary
625 of 748 Precincts Reporting - 83.56%
Name Party Votes Pct
Lamont, Ned Dem 120,616 51.88
Lieberman, Joe (i) Dem 111,887 48.12

That means there are 277 thousand total votes and 233 thousand have been reported.

That means Lieberman would need 33 thousand of the 44 thousand remaining votes in order to win.

I think we can call it people.

P.S.

Mark this thread just in case Lieberman wins. We'll know something is wrong if he does win at this point.

2. 52% of CT Democrats are Anti-War?
Is this what this election mean? I don't want to seem pessimistic but please understand me after 6 years of let down. It is an improvement but I am still afraid.

SOMEBODY PLEASE SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE!!!

5. No, that's not what it means
Not everyone is voting on the war alone. A lot of people are going to vote for an 18 year incumbent, period.

The fact that Lamont has been able to even ruffle Lieberman's feather's is a huge victory.

7. Primaries are when the activists vote
Also, CT is a Dem state, and 80% of Dems are against the war.

It's a perfect storm.

6. He would be hypocritical enough to do so. (Unlike in 2000)
But I'm reasonanbly sure that no recount would be required unless the margin of victory was under 1%. That's what it seems to be in most states.

10. Funny headline. I can tell you're excited. You may wish to edit though.
83% reporting, not 83% remaining.

14. Percent of Precincts does not = % of VOTES
Don't have the brain power right now to figure out if that's what your calc is based on, but if so... they're not equivalent...

15. Your math is wrong. Lieberman needs to be about +17% of the remaining
precincts. It's 83% of the precincts reporting, not 83% of the votes. We don't know how many voters that actually will be. Nevertheless, you say Lieberman would need to win 33K of 44K. That would be +22K votes, but he's only down 9K.

Using your numbers, 83% of votes are in, so 17% to go. About 5x more votes are in than we are waiting for, so Lieberman needs 5 x 3.5% to win (17.5%).

But you are right. It is over.

18. that math is wrong--it's actually only about 60%
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 09:54 PM by fishwax
For one thing, percentage of precincts does not equal percentage of votes. Also, alas, even if it did, Joe would only need about 60% of the remaining votes. Still a high number, but quite different from 3/4

If there were 44 thousand votes outstanding, Joe would only need to win about 27 thousand to give him about 139,000 (more than half of 277,000).
