DeLay Vows to Take Name Off Texas Ballot
DeLay Vows to Take Name Off Texas Ballot

By SUZANNE GAMBOA
The Associated Press
Tuesday, August 8, 2006; 6:43 PM

WASHINGTON -- Former Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Tuesday he is taking the necessary steps to remove his name from the November ballot, giving his party a chance to field a write-in candidate in hopes of holding the House seat.

Buffeted by scandal, DeLay said his June 9 resignation from Congress was "irrevocable" and maintained that he's no longer a Texan.

"As a Virginia resident, I will take the actions necessary to remove my name from the Texas ballot. To do anything else would be hypocrisy," DeLay said in a statement.

DeLay was forced to act after Republicans lost several court fights to remove his name from the ballot in the Houston-area district and replace him with a GOP-chosen nominee. Republicans ended their legal battles Monday when Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia refused to hear their case, letting the appeals court decision stand.

DeLay criticized the courts' decisions as he encouraged the Republican Party to "take any and all actions necessary to give Texas voters an up-or-down choice this fall between two major party candidates."

I would think the only way to get his name off the ballot is if the is dead.

21. There is no provision to remove a name, ...
even if the candidate has died.

You'll have to ask yourself; Why did Delay run in
the primary, if he is not a citizen of the state of Texas?

Also, if he is not a citizen of Texas during the primary,
wouldn't this be illegal?

He's such a

4. It was the height of hubris to run in the primary in the first place
And the fact that he WON, shows that Texas Republicans deserve whatever they get.

I hope they elect a Democrat that makes Gay Pride Day an official State Holiday for Texas, declares "Imagine" by John Lennon to be the state anthem, and puts condoms in every classroom.

Someone should ask Delay If suicide is an option and has he considered it? He said everything.

31. I believe...
...that it depends on the state's law, but it would seem that the law is against DeLay here. Remember, also, that in Missouri a few years back, John Asscroft lost his senate race to Mel Carnahan, who was, at the time, dead.

22. I could hardly wait to hear what Jaunita had to say about all this
And she didn't disappoint:

They say that DeLay will make his own announcement this afternoon. Prediction: it will be unapologetic, filled with self pity, and there will be at least 5 mentions of God, Jesus, and little children. Although Thelma is betting that he'll hide behind little puppies this time just for a change of pace.
Today is Ole Bubba's and my wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Bubba - here's Tom DeLay's Rump on a Plate, all gift-wrapped with a bow about the size of Vermont

23. Whoa!! "maintained that he's no longer a Texan" ?!!?
I'm bettin' his good-ole-boy constituency down in Houston isn't too happy with Tommy declaring he's no longer a Texan...that's dang near treason!

Some of these statements just about made me fall out of my chair:

"To do anything else would be hypocrisy." From the man who took hypocrisy in Washington to a whole new level.

"take any and all actions necessary to give Texas voters an up-or-down choice this fall between two major party candidates." Gee, Tommy, I thought that was Frist's talking point.

25. "Following the rules of law is only for the little people,
er, the Democrats", stated Tom DeLay.

"I mean, I don't want to be a hypocrit or anything, but what's a law? Didn't you see my signing statement"?

27. Well, there's your solution...
Have Delay and Faux Joe Liarmann switch places! Joe could run as a crazoid Texas Repug and start publicly Frenching the Chimp, just the way he's always wanted to do; and Tom Dickhead will simply disappear into the background in CT.

Or, on the other hand, both of them could just SHUT THE HELL UP and take their medicine.
