An interesting report re: the CT primary
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/08/donut_hole.html

Donut Hole

The 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary, according to one pollster who has been monitoring turnout today is turning into a “donut primary.” The suburbs are outstripping Democratic cities in voter interest in the race between Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont. Lieberman has been counting on voters in the state’s cities to overcome the advantage Lamont is expected to show in liberal suburban voting. That may not be happening. In the Democratic redoubt of East Hartford, one of the state’s most reliably Democratic towns, the turnout was 20% at 1 pm, reassuring Lamont’s campaign that moderate, blue collar Democrats may not be as interested in supporting Lieberman as liberals in more affluent communities are in turning him out.

1. We'll have to save screen shots of exit polls when they're posted
this time. And every time.

I simply don't trust the media to report the discrepancies in exit polling here like they did in the Ukraine or, heck, even Mexico (which really isn't getting all that much coverage despite the hundreds of thousands of protesters).

That said, this is wonderful news. When I drive home, if I want to hear news, I have to hear it sandwiched between Sean Insannity or Michael Savage (:grr:) and they're running scared, folks. They have conspiracy theory-type authors on alleging that the Lamont/Lieberman race is, get this, funded by the elitist liberals who want Hillary for president. (Any fool spending a modicum of time on DU would know that the two simply just don't mix!)

Thanks for keeping us upbeat, Will. :hi:

3. Yeah, thanks for that reminder! I'll be up late...
So I'll keep an extra tab open and grab screenshots of updates.

I really don't think he can steal this, but it pays to be prepared.

4. Lamont has the "Eugene McCarthy" constituency
affluent democrats and independents who live in the suburbs who are more than likely well educated.

6. That can't be right
Everyone knows Lamont supporters are nothing but fringe whackos deployed by commie pinkos, under the sway of patented blogofascist™ mind-control techniques.

:sarcasm:

7. Hope you're right, Will. But I've got to say
I live in one of those cities where turnout seems a little low (New London.) Early in the war, when I stood with the peace vigilers, we used to get cheers and honks and thumbs up constantly. Hardly any one-fingered peace signs. And this was when, according to the polls, most people loved the war and thought the Iraqis did, too.

But when we vigiled in the affluent suburbs ten miles away, people didn't like us. They used to shout things like, "Get a job!" and--myfavorite--"Go back to Iraq!"

In my experience, the cities here are full of smart, politically aware folks who lean left, who are toiling away in restaurants and coffee shops and day care centers because they're not willing to work for Big Business. And they love Lamont. I mean love.

The 'burbs? I've lived in the CT 'burbs, too. And people were a little more comfortable, a little more establishment. I hate to say it, but they were Lieberman Dems.

Just one person's experience...

We'll all know in a little more than an hour.
