U.S. Postal Jobs are being sabotaged right now by the GOP!
:grr: Damn them! Damn them! Damn them!

Please everyone forward this information to Congress!
__________
Aug. 8, 2006 -- U.S. Postal Service employees of the Brentwood postal facility (now called the Curseen-Morris Mail Processing and Distribution Center) in Washington, DC, victims of the first biological weapons attack in the United States in 2001, now face additional attacks -- by the senior management of the U.S. Postal Service, including GOP political hack Postmaster General John Potter. According to Brentwood sources, the jobs of the current Brentwood employees are being threatened by an administration bent on privatizing the US Postal Service. Clerk jobs at Brentwood are being transferred to postal facilities as far away as Richmond and Philadelphia, a hardship for longtime residents of the Washington, DC area. Postal service drivers are finding their jobs being outsourced to contract drivers and maintenance workers are being downsized. Postal service management is also dragging its feet on implementing safety measures at Brentwood designed to prevent a repeat of the deaths resulting from the 2001 anthrax mailings.

6. I am a postal employee in MI.
THIS IS HAPPENING. This and more, and Madsen is, for once, completely correct.

Another issue is "casuals in lieu of". What postal managers are doing: replacing full-time position with "casuals", by attrition. What it MEANS is, positions which were once full-time, plus benefits, union jobs, are being replaced with "temporary", 90-day appointed, TEMP WORKERS who are not covered by the contract (even though they are MENTIONED IN THAT SAME CONTRACT), receive NO benefits (no vacation time OR sick leave OR health insurance), and HAVE NO UNION REPRESENTATION.

Casuals are why your mail delivery may be having problems right now. Not that the casuals don't know what they're doing- but they're not not NOT being trained per the contract, and they're being treated like dogshit by the floor supervisors besides.

A union arbitrator just ruled a settlement for the Lansing local of the mail handlers' union on this "casuals in lieu of" situation that will net around two million bucks for the affected workers. Other locals in other parts of the country have received judgements in the TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Postal management is ruining the service. We need to get rid of these do-nothing creeps, and put REAL employees on a rotation into and out of supervisory positions on a seniority-based schedule.

BAse-level postal supervisors (I talked to one who just started in such a position just a week or so ago) get paid around $3000 every two weeks for doing absolutely nothing productive: they are contractually prohibited from handling mail in any way. They are unnecessary, they are superflous, but they are everywhere on the floor. One section of shift in one plant (Tour I, my plant) might have as many as three supervisors for their one section (about 12 machines processing mail, all in the same part of the plant).

EVERY problem associated with the USPS is the fault of postal management. The unions are NOT the issue. The USPS is a fundamentally mismanaged company, and has been for years. It's time, and past time, to get rid of the "supervisor" class, and thusly clean the company up.

3. They tried that garbage here too.
They took a bunch of "rural routes" - which are now actually suburban routes, and hired indy contractors. They had so many problems with bad deliveries and stolen mail they were forced to put the routes back in house.

7. yes, but that is why the bushies are attacking. They want
to weaken government services to justify destroying government services. "Look at how bad they are, privatizing it will make it more efficient."

If you like higher prices, your neighborhood being redlined, and rural customers shut out, privatize.

9. Ah:
We are. We are the very BEST postal system on the planet. Period.

What we have is very, VERY poor management at thd plant manager level and above. The floor supervisors would be MUCH more effective if they ever actually had to DO the jobs they supervise. We, in my plant, have floor supervisors who have never once actually worked on the machines which they supervise the operation of. And that's part of the problem- a MAJOR part of the problem.

12. The THUGS want to GIFT the USPS to a crony or two
so that billions of dollars can flow into the pockets of the very few and very privileged in this country. This is just further proof of the destruction of the middle class, the working class, and the unions who protect the american worker.

I HATE HATE HATE these bastards more than I can ever say! Hope they burn in hell! :grr:

Completely true and even worse. Another example of the re:puke:s BIG LIE strategy being implemented for the last 25 years. The USPS is the envy of the world, nobody else has anything even close, but ask the average sheep and they'll tell you how lousy the service is and how expensive it is and how inefficient it is, none of which is true.

The really funny thing is that if they could get their way, the combined ability of UPS, FedEX, DHL, etc. couldn't deliver 1/10th of the volume that the USPS handles, not to mention it would raise the cost of mailing a letter to $2 - $3.
They have been on a campaign to destroy every service in the government, except the military of course, since they carried out the coup, hoping the sheep are dumb enough to let them give them away to their billionaire buddies.

14. Don't need to, they're more than willing to regale me with the ongoing
shit as often as I like. Casuals, non-existent PTF's, contract stations, you name it. They're doing such blatant shit it is a wonder that anybody gets their mail these days. City carriers that are on the streets until 8 and 9 o'clock trying to cover all of the uncovered routes, the asinine hiring freeze for the last 3(?) years (I believe this is just this region, not nation-wide). And don't get them started on the union and their abrogation of their duty.
