Some interesting info re turnout in Mansfield, CT...... 80%...?
This is big Ned Country....

Home to the UCONN Huskies, Mansfield is among CT's most liberal towns. It regularly gives 30%+ margins to Dem candidates.

It is a place where anti-war sentiments run high -- even when the nation is not at war. The kind of place, in short, where Lamont ought to do quite well.

"This is unbelievable," said Epling about about 4 o'clock. With some wonderment in her voice, Epling said she and others in the Town Hall were digging through old primary results to find a comparison. She said the closest thing they could find was the '92 Dem PRESIDENTIAL contest when Jerry Brown upended Bill Clinton and 173K CT residents voted.

Asked if turnout would thus crest the 50% mark, she replied, "Oh yes, it will probably get closer to 80%."

3. How many people live in Mansfield?

It's great that there was high turnout but just looking to see some solid numbers.

Mansfield can't be too populated, is it?

4. Well, it's UConn's major campus (Storrs is in Mansfield).
Other than Uconn faculty staff and students, Mansfield's population is tiny. But I would expect an overwhelming vote for Ned from Uconn folks.

10. Another interesting part:
<snip>

SuperTuesday Donut Hole

The 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary, according to one pollster who has been monitoring turnout today is turning into a “donut primary.” The suburbs are outstripping Democratic cities in voter interest in the race between Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont. Lieberman has been counting on voters in the state’s cities to overcome the advantage Lamont is expected to show in liberal suburban voting. That may not be happening. In the Democratic redoubt of East Hartford, one of the state’s most reliably Democratic towns, the turnout was 20% at 1 pm, reassuring Lamont’s campaign that moderate, blue collar Democrats may not be as interested in supporting Lieberman as liberals in more affluent communities are in turning him out.

11. High turnout sorta shoots Joe's "hot day in August" excuse to smithereens
:)

"I'm essentially taking out an insurance policy," Lieberman said on Monday. "I'm opening up an option that will guarantee me that I will be able to make my case to all the voters in Connecticut in November.....No one really knows how many Democrats will come out to vote on what may be a hot day in August."

12. Good point - the higher the turnout, the more Joe will look like a sore
loser, a spoiler and a wannabe Republican if he pursues running as an independent in November. Although I'm sure the GOP will make hefty campaign contributions to him.

16. And the more the polls that show him with a lead in a 3 way race
look bogus.

If Joe loses today, he will go down in flames in a 3 way race. Ned and co. will and should exploit his disloyalty to Democrats and the Constitutional law.
