Joe will go third-party
according to Matthews and his "unimpeachable source."

Probably Joe was the source.

Rat bastard.

16. I predict he'll start a 3rd party run but...............
the early polls will show him lower than whale sh*t. Clinton, Hilary, Dodd, and about every other Dem will go to him in order to get him to drop out. After a month or so.... he'll "get his hat,".... to coin a phrase.

2. I'm very disappointed
How the hell will he sell this to us in CT as anything but putting his personal ambition above the best interests of the party and of the country?

He had a small chance to redeem his integrity by bowing out after a loss. This is quite disturbing.

4. It will be interesting to see what the final percentages are
if Lieberman loses by a healthy margin I wonder if Democrats will tell him to quit or they can forget any backing. But Joe is so power mad I'm sure he will do it anyway for spite. Well, we can have the fun of beating him in November too.

30. That's not gonna work so well.
A Lieberman(I) candidacy is gonna draw a lot more support
from the Repubs (who share his ideals) than the Democrats
(whom he's stabbed in the back).

I honestly think it will split the Repub vote
and boost LAMONT's margin of victory in Nov.

And, hey: Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. This won't play well to Connecticut voters.
We need unity in November. Joe will lose his support if he pulls this stunt. He can't win. Dems will not take the chance on throwing their vote away on Joe, and giving the seat to a Repuke. Joe should exit gracefully.

11. These Guys HATE Losing...
Only Democrats go quietly into the night. If he were truly a Democrat, he would accept defeat, and be humble. He'd even send the victor his congratulations on a well deserved win.

But, since he's repub, he'll fight tooth and nail to get what is rightfully his. He OWNS the office, didn't you know that? Like King george, he's entitled to be there, regardless of what the "little people" might say. That's irrelevant.

HE'LL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO STAY IN OFFICE. Even if that means running as an independent. He can't afford not to have "power."

The only possible way the Dems lose in CT is if that selfish mother fucker siphons away votes. Joe needs to take his head out of his ass, count his losses, go the fuck home, pour himself a glass of wine, and suck down some rancid platypii balls.

He's said he'd go independent, he took actions to go independent, it seems he may have raised money to go independent and now we are gonna be surprised when he actually goes independent? Hardly.

Now, the rat bastard treatment of the Democratic Party of Connecticutt, that is different. That's a story that's not really been told yet.

15. Joe is going to get extreme pressure to concede.
All the major Democratic Party people are going to be applying pressure to Joe to concede and let Ned Lamont take over without a fight.

1. His running as an indepedant is going to really piss off the CT electorate.

2. He won't stand a chance of winning.

3. It will hurt the Democratic Party.

35. I keep thinking of Nixon in Aug 1974
He is totally intent on fighting his upcoming impeachment. He is adament about it. He doesn't want to give up power.

Then, on August 7, Senators Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), Hugh Scott (R-PA), and John Rhodes (R-AZ) drop in on him in the White House. Nixon resigns the next day.

The same will happen with Joe Lieberman. The Democratic Party will not stand for his defection when by all accounts, he won't have a prayer of a chance to win in November.

24. Correct.
Joe will find he does not have the democratic backing needed to go 3rd party. He would be exposed for his republican essence. Though he has plans in place to go on if he loses, those plans may be coming to an abrupt halt.

31. What would be a capper
on the inept clownshow of Joe's campaign... what if it turned out he couldn't raise the 7500 signatures? That his 3rd-party threat is toothless because he can't do it? Big stretch, I know. But Team Joe has been nothing but fuckup upon disaster, so I wonder...
We've heard solidly conflicting information on whether Lieberman's independent signature bid has been successful. Several sources who have spoken directly to those involved in the effort insist that the campaign is now sitting on the necessary signatures. But at least one person who has access to the upper echelons of Lieberman's campaign insists that the opposite is true.

If he ran on smarts as opposed to emotion and ego - he would wait for four years to run again and he might have a chance then because people will have forgotten all about what a numbskull he is.

If he ends up causing the Repubs to get in there - he will be the most hated man in politics.
