I'd like to know how hacking someone's website could impact
their e-mail server. Seriously.

I know if my webpage is screwed up, I can still send e-mail. But of course, I don't host myself, and I've never been hacked. When I worked for a major NYC bank, our webservers and mail servers were completely separate.

So how is this web hacking a problem for LIEberman's e-mail "get out the vote" efforts? Can anyone explain this?

1. It Isn't
It's an "assign blame to somebody else for losing" effort.

2. From what I know, it isn't a problem.
But that's coming from a non-computer geek. What I think that this BS is about is providing ol' Joe an excuse to run as an independent, no matter what the final vote tally is tonight. He can run around the state grandstanding about how his campaign was sabotaged, yadda, yadda, yadda, and thathe is running as an independent in order to "see justice done" or some such crapola.

And thus ol' Joe can bring his real constituents into play, Republicans and neo-cons. They would swarm out to vote for him over their own party's candidates, and Joe's betting that there's enough "centerist" Democrats that he can form a coalition group and defeat Lamont in the fall. Sadly, it might work too.

But my gut feeling is that this little story is nothing but the set up, the fig leaf that Joe's going to run behind as an independent. Pathetic, but that's my take.

3. It made their cell phones stop working
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 02:42 PM by Mabus
and besides, all their important numbers are only available on-line. :sarcasm:

We all know the problem is clogged tubes due to all the gambling and porn.

on edit: seriously, most of the GOTV efforts around here are based on lists maintained on the various computers networked around the HQ. You maintain GOTV info on your HQ computers, not on-line where it could get hacked. You make GOTV calls on every phone available. The people out transporting others keep in contact via cellphones, not the internet.

8. Mine are
I swear, the other day, I was asked to get off of my internets because my husband's connection to his on-line poker game was slow! Can you imagine? That's when I told him I didn't even have my computer on! One of the dogs had turned it off at the surge protector. Then I splained to him that his gambling chips were the problem.

4. Your technical expertise is outstanding. I know for a FACT
that all webpages and email server setups HAVE to be EXACTLY the same!

Thankfully, I've already found it elsewhere on this site, as your Snarky response adds Absolutely Nothing to the discussion.
