I'M A GASHOLE!
Okay, I just had a great idea. Who here wants to print up stickers that say "I'M A GASHOLE!", and affix them to Hummers, Escalades, Excursions and the like all over our great land?

I think that such a campaign would be a fine way to let people who justify these vehicles know exactly where they stand in our society today. Kind of a Scarlett Letter approach for our times.

without my permission.

edited to change to "affixing," I guess if someone sat a coke can on it probably wouldn't be illegal.

5. Get one of the MoveOn.com stickers and put it on your car instead.
They say:

GOP: Grand Oil Party

and the Elephant's trunk is a gasoline pump line and handle. I have one on my car, and I'm getting lots of thumbs up from people. With gas prices so high, it certainly gets the message across.

Mine was free because I've donated to MoveOn before, but I think with even a small donation you could probably still get one. And, the money goes to a good organization (in my opinion).

I am getting my Prius on Thursday and I have already made a H2,H3 (potential) buyer think about getting a hybrid SUV instead. She was jealous.

10. I have an SUV that runs on E85
Nowhere on my vehicle does it say that I use E85, so a lot of people probably think I'm a gas hog. Instead, I'm using less GAS than I did with my car. I would be royally pissed if someone put a bumper sticker on my vehicle without my consent.

Keep your stickers on your car, please.

11. just as a point of interest...
It takes very close to a gallon of crude to produce a gallon of corn based ethanol.

Ethanol as currently manufactured in this country does not lower emissions: it merely moves them to a different location.

I don't say this to call you names or degrade you, but I work in the Auto Industry, and I know it to be so, and thought you might like to be aware.

12. Oh god, not this argument again
I know you're just trying to inform me, but I've heard "facts" about this before, both good and bad.

From http://ltc.smm.org/buzz/blog/e85_ethanol_myths_and_realities :
***
Does it take more energy to produce ethanol than it delivers?
Current technology fuel ethanol, returns 139% of the energy invested in its production and delivery for a net +39% energy return, due to the free solar energy captured by the plants used for its production. Current values for the energy balance of production show that gasoline returns only 80% of the energy invested in its production and delivery to the consumer. It has a negative energy balance of -20%.
Energy crops such as perennial switch grasses, timothy, and other high-output/low-input crops will be used in the future. This will improve the energy input/output ratio even more.
***

I'm sorry for going off on a rant here. I know you were only trying to help. I guess what bothers me is that a whole bunch of people say stuff like this but they don't take into account that if we invest in this technology, things can keep improving. When gasoline powered cars first came into use, gas mileage wasn't even close to what it is today. But with new technology and refinements, auto makers were able to improve fuel efficiency. So because E85 isn't PERFECT now, we should just give up on it? People keep waiting for a perfect solution. It isn't going to happen. We need to find MULTIPLE solutions and work to improve those solutions.

So let's not start about this again. Hybrids are the auto company's METHADONE for YOU (not you specifically), the GASOLINE JUNKIE, and YOU (again, not you specifically) THE OIL COMPANY GASOLINE DRUG PUSHER.

Do you really believe that Ahnold and the Conservatives in California got the Electric Vehicle requirement overturned because it was GOOD FOR US???? Do you REALLY TRUST ANY CAR MAKER??? Toyota recently got nailed big time for concealing dangerous defects from recall. HELLO?

13. I like the slogan, but not the idea.
I wouldn't advocate putting them on others vehicles. Just asking to be labeled as vandals and having a backlash.

I campaign with that slogan that didn't involve putting the stickers on others vehicles seems like a good idea.

25. Hmmm... what about magnetic signs?
IIRC they don't cause any damage (unless the owner doesn't check the rear of their vehicle), hence they dont cause vandalism. Of course they can come off very easily too.

I've so wanted to put some signs on cars sporing the W04 logo.

27. I do agree...but I like the idea of seeing a Hummer with that sticker.
I just read the article about ELF in this month's Rolling Stone, and I came away with the same feeling. I have no sympathy for people who blow up car lots full of SUVs to make a statement. It actually occurred to me that ELF is to liberals as Fred Phelps is to conservatives.

Point taken.

It's more a fantasy, and I shouldn't advocate for such things. But I sure would laugh my ass off to see a Hummer sporting a W sticker unknowingly telling the world "I'm a Gashole."

A guy can dream can't he?

I'd be fuming if I ever saw anyone touch my car for any damn reason, but as a mental visual of seeing a hummer with the W sticker and one saying 'I'm a gashole', I definitely can find the humor in that, believe me :)
