FILIBUSTER??!! --- Durbin's moronic excuse. . .
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 03:09 PM by pat_k
. . .for Dereliction of Duty!!

Instead of mounting a FILIBUSTER to Block the nomination, Dems rationalize their cowardice with the idea they'll be able to say "I told you so."

The Republicans are laughing their heads off at their so-called strategy:
"Gee, hehe, for a minute there I though they would actually DO SOMETHING!

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 - With little chance of stopping Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr.'s confirmation to the Supreme Court, Senate Democratic leaders urged their members Tuesday to vote against him in an effort to lay the groundwork for making a campaign issue of his decisions on the court.

The vote count "matters a lot, and I think the debate leading up to it matters," said Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Democratic whip.

"If a nominee disappoints the country with their service on their court and their decisions, I think some people may ask the important question, Did the Senate really take a close look at this nominee?" Mr. Durbin said. "Did they tell us this was coming?" . . .

Don't let them find comfort in this moronic rationalization! Reid, Leahy, and Dubin NEED to HEAR FROM YOU!!!

Set them straight. Now!!

They think a phony, useless resistance will satisfy all those people demanding that they fight; that the pretense of resistance is as good as ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING."

This is their rationalization for inaction. They need to believe it so they can sleep at night.

Read them the riot act.

If they don't stand up, they'll confront one "issue" in their campaigns -- the perception of Democrats as weak, complicit, and cowardly.

Tell them that we SHALL NOT tolerate their continued destruction of the party. To save them from themselves, we have no choice. We must recruit RICH or WELL KNOWN primary challengers who WILL stand up for us, and who have the means to crush the wimps.

We expect the men and women of our armed services to risk life and limb to fulfill their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Every member of Congress takes the same oath. We will not tolerate dereliction of duty.

3. Where in the article does it mention at all
Durbin's stance on a possible fillibuster? I'd warrant he is doing all he can behind the scenes to try to make it happen, he is one of the most progressive and best we have.

4. He may well be doing his best. . .

. . ."behind the scenes." But, if he is already spinning his failure by insisting that the vote count and debate by themselves are some sort of achievement, then his best just ain't good enough.

They know it is a moral imperative to Filibuster and fight to block Alito to the bitter end. Convincing themselves that voting "no" and speechifying "matter a lot" may quiet the voice of conscience and ease the shame, but it does not change the reality of their failure to do the right thing.

If their rationalizations are taken from them, their choice becomes clear. Fight to the end with pride or turn away from their moral obligation in shame.

We can help them to see the light by challenging the rationalizations they rely on to "make it ok" to stop short. We need to ask some questions to find out if other Senators are deluding themselves in this way.

-----
BTW, Sen. Durbin is nothing if not consistent. Undoubtedly he believed he could break the bonds of complicity with the theft of the 2004 Presidential election when he stood up on January 6th, 2005 and blew a lot of hot air, instead of actually voting to reject the Ohio electors. Whatever rationalization allows him to sleep at night, the reality is that every Senator except Barbara Boxer is complicit with the election thieves. (None of them are forever lost. They can "come clean" anytime by admitting their error and pledging to reject tainted electors in 2008 - january6th.org)
