Primary day bummer
This was not the way I wanted to start my day.

Had a quick cellphone conversation with a buddy up in Hartford, Connecticut on my way to work to see if he was geared up for today. While he wouldn't win the title of "Lamont Superfan", he was pretty vocal in his support of him...or so it seemed. The whole thing kind of went like this:

Me: "I imagine you've already voted..."

Buddy: "Naw...later today..."

Me: "Well, I'm pulling for your guy. I admit some previous skepticism, but..."

Buddy: (laughing) "Well, that makes one of us..."

Me: "You're not on the Lamont bandwagon anymore?" (I asked this facetiously)

Buddy: "Second thoughts...buyers remorse..."

Me: "Dude, you're gonna give me a coronary...what are you talking about?"

Buddy: "Might just stick with Joe....."

In a nutshell, he decided Lamont had too much money. Why that is all of the sudden an issue with him I don't know

Since he's not voting until later (he couldn't even if he wanted to...he's got work-related stuff going on) I'm going to hammer his blackberry all day and hope no one pushes him over the cliff.

1. Well your buddy is a fool
if he decided to vote that way because of the said reason.

LIEberman isn't living the hard life either. Does he know that?

2. When you do hammer him, remind him
that a lot of people in the country and around the world look at this primary as a referendum on the war and George Bush. Ask him if he wants people to think that CT supports the war and Bush. And also remind him the Lieberman isn't exactly on food stamps.

3. WTF
is wrong with a man spending his OWN money on something he believes in? Why is it "better" to spend other people's (corporations) money. Your buddy is a dick (with all due respect)for thinking this way

4. Remind him that Hadessa's (sp) got a new job!
Then ask him whether he'd rather have someone in government who knows how to successfully manage their money or is beholden to lobby interests. (probably not said very well, but you can work with it.)

8. He's not going to care about that....
By most tradition measures (Iraq excepted), this guy is a Lieberman voter. That's what made his enthusiasm for Lamont so cool.

9. For the love of Pete! What more do you need to know when you hear
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 09:32 AM by Nickster
your guy is being endorsed by the far-right radical fringe? I mean c'mon...no warning bells when Sean Hannity says he'll go out and do on-site events for your guy? That's all I need to know, but I'm just crazy that way I guess.

Ask him if he agrees with Sean Hannity, because Joe sure does.

10. So is he willing to send one of his loved ones to Iraq
because if he votes for war monger Joe than your frined should put up or shut up -

I will never understand why this being rich is an issue - THEY ARE ALL RICH - or mostly

In the 2004 election my boss went on and on and on about how John Kerry that he had 500 million from Theresa - and I said what is your freaking point how much money do you think the freak in chief has?

My God I do not understand this

I hope your friend is not representative of the CT voters - I am going to have a break down if Lamont loses - I can't take one more bad election day.

14. And people, obviously, don't vote for those who don't have a lot.
Kucinich made middle-class wages and Clark, who'd made less than middle-class wages most of his life, was only just beginning to make any money by the time both ran in 2004.

Neither won.

If having money is the issue, why aren't people voting for those who don't.

(Just agreeing with you on the other side of the coin).

11. Tell him that a low voter turnout
will favor Joe. Then encourage him not to vote.

On election day in 1976, my psych professor at Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria campus for those of you who know the school) at the beginning of class said:

"I'm sure all of you are aware that today is election day. I hope you're all registered to vote and that you're planning on voting today. However, I want to remind you that a low voter turnout generally favors Republicans, so if you're a Republican, don't vote."

I almost fell out of my chair laughing, and no one else in the class got the joke.

12. Ask you friend this !
If he's not excited about Ned, and he's not excited about Joe, but he's leaning toward Joe ask him not to vote in the primary.

I'd rather have him sit out the primary if he plans on voting for Joe, just a thought here. i really don't like asking folks not to vote, but this is important !

13. I made a suggestion earlier but just thought of one
ask him how he feels paying 3, 4 or 5 dollars for gas because our policy in Iraq has led to these obscene oil companies profits - according to Greg Palast that was the plan - and it seems to be working like a charm at our expense.

15. Tell him JFK and FDR were rich, if that's his REAL reason.
Isn't Joe taking tons of money from the drug industry? Of course, Looserman wasted ALL of our money on this stupid war he still supports.

16. TAKE NOTE, DUers....
THIS is our problem.

THIS is the type of voter that caves to last minute ads and how PR guys make their money in campaigns.

He's probably been bombarded with ads over the past week and the few minutes he can give to choosing his senator for the next 6 years has been influenced enough to CHANGE HIS VOTE to the BFEE favorite, kissable Joe.

All the talk in the world doesn't change things unless people vote on primary/election day.

18. Might want to stop...
Sounds like he's shut down.

Those PR firms earn their money with their brainwashing, don't they?

I don't live in CT but I see a lot of BS about "country clubs" and crap like that.

It's the "Runaway Bride" syndrome of our country brought on by a poor education system, busy lifestyles and the Corporate Media adding to the dumbing down of America.

19. Why is it a crime for a Democrat to have money??
I hear this BS from my boyfriend's dad all the time. He's a Repub and is constantly slamming Ted Kennedy for having money, and is always saying things like, "what does Ted Kennedy know about the poor? He can't relate to being poor.". (Like W and his brain-washed bretheren can? At least Kennedy is trying to do something about it.)

They criticized Kerry for having money, and made Edwards out to be a money grubbing ambulence chaser... WTF is wrong with people?? Why is it only socially apropriate for Republicans to be Millionares?
