Lieberman's Troubles Go Beyond War
The other part of the story here is a familiar tale in politics, that of an incumbent who, as he gained national prominence, gradually lost touch with the voters and politicians who first sent him to Washington. Long before Iraq, there were signs of erosion in Lieberman's standing in Connecticut. "There was a personal sense among Connecticut Democrats that his national agenda is what matters to him and not Connecticut," said George Jepsen, a former state party chairman and supporter of antiwar challenger Ned Lamont.

(snip)
Some Democrats still resent his 1998 Senate floor speech criticizing President Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Others dislike his support for legislation allowing federal courts to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case. Others were offended when Lieberman, who is a strong supporter of women's rights and has the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said Catholic hospitals should not be required to offer emergency contraception to rape victims because they can easily go to another hospital.

Good article in the WP! First one I've seen that recognizes that Joe's problems go far beyond the Iraq war!

Read the entire article if you have a chance. It covers a lot.

3. From what I understand, that was ONE poll! All the other polls still
showed Ned still having a double digit lead.

I guess we'll find out for sure tonight!

4. I hope Lamont wins.....
Lieberbutt's time has come and gone - it's way past it's prime....Did Joe ever take up Colbert's challenge? I've been having a hard time staying up that late.

5. i think it's going to be close.
I hope the large margin Lamont was showing in Quinnipiac poll doesn't suppress his voters.

2. If Lieb makes good on his threat to run as an Independent
we can expand the "wrong in Iraq" label to include:
- wrong on Social Security (backed B*sh's ripoff plan)
- wrong on Terri Schiavo
- wrong on free speech and democracy (opposed criticism of B*sh's policies and track record)

8. I believe he supported DOMA as well.
Which would put him in with the triangulators who are willing to trade civil rights of homosexual americans for the votes of religiously motivated bigots, or a bigot himself.

he's a great propaganda piece for the republicans for his attacks on fellow democrats as well as a few high profile stances.
