Lieutenant Colonel Craig Minnick, United States Army Reserves, Bronze Star recipient Lt Col Craig Minnick has served as the Command Judge Advocate (senior
legal advisor) for the 220th Military Police Brigade since November 2002 and deployed in that position
in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2003 to February 2004. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Lt Col Minnick provided legal advice to the commanders and staffs of the brigade on a number of issues including the Laws of Armed Conflict (i.e. Geneva and Hague Conventions) and conducted hearings for Iraqi prisoners of war. He also served as the legal advisor for investigations involving soldier misconduct including alleged mistreatment of Iraqi civilians and detainees and provided advice on soldier discipline and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. In addition, he was the legal advisor for the confinement facility for U.S. military personnel and was the brigade's legal liaison to British Military Police and Kuwaiti Government personnel. Lt. Col. Minnick's duty assignments while on active duty from 1992 through 1998 included senior attorney for the Claims and Legal Assistance sections at the Presidio of San Francisco, California; administrative law attorney and prosecutor with the 24th and 3rd Infantry Divisions at Fort Stewart, Georgia including overseas deployments to Saudi Arabia and Egypt; and as the senior and supervising administrative law attorney in addition to the senior prosecutor and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. While stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, he was the legal spokesman to the national and international media during Aberdeen Proving Ground's sexual harassment/assault cases, was a member of the Army's sexual harassment hotline, and acted as the legal advisor to the presiding officers of the Article 32 investigations (military equivalent of a civilian grand jury) for those cases. Lt Col Craig Minnick was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and grew up in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Without disrespecting the service of a fellow veteran, I want to express my strongest possible dismay with the attacks Craig MINNICK, John O’NEILL, and others make on Representative MURTHA, Senator KERRY, and other patriotic Americans.
Col. MINNICK on a recent MSNBC program displayed the usual Rightwing non-stop motor mouthing. Luckily, Tucker CARLSON, no slouch himself, kept him in check, but HANNITY and O’REILLY will compensate for sure in days and years to come.
Some questions:
MINNICK collects “indoctrination” fees from college Republicans, “only” $1000-3000 (chump change for wing nuts). That is, he spends his time yawing blarney to military age persons who claim to want a strong defense yet who are not willing to put their own lives at risk. Why doesn’t Minnick RECRUIT them instead of doing all of that mutual yawing?
Why doesn’t he funnel his energies into targeting the actual enemies of democracy instead of our elected civilian officials who have oversight responsibilities of the appropriateness and effectiveness of our use of the military--AND how the military comports itself?
I am maximally against the politicization of military service. It was revolting to see six Medal of Honor winners, WITH THEIR MEDALS, standing on a Republican stage during the Florida voting fiasco of 2000. Why doesn’t a legal professional like MINNICK understand the fundamental concepts of our form of government, instead practicing the usual military baiting and propaganda masquerading as “patriotism“?
I would like more details about MINNICK’s earning the Bronze Star since the bios are crammed only with the administrative, support side of his service. It’s odd that they aren’t being exploited since the rest of his military experience is.
And just a sidebar: I was a caller to a radio talkshow who singlehandedly ran O’NEILL off the air. I prefaced with my non-heroic Vietnam service, to which he said, “Oh, you guys on (those units) were great!” Then I said that the Purple Heart criteria range all the way from ONE DROP of blood shed under combat conditions to death, such that it was disgraceful and unconscionable for him to question KERRY’s documented performance, well within the criteria. So O’NEILL suddenly told the radio host he had to go--IMMEDIATELY.
