2. A reporter on the local news said that
a lot of voters are saying the war is their main motivation for voting. One woman said that she felt we went to Iraq with wrong information and too many people had died already. This was in West Hartford. Of course its early and that polling place was a bit slow. I am heading out in about 15 minutes.

9. My sister and I just voted. There were two Lamont people
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 07:32 AM by jonnyblitz
standing outside the polling place trying to guage who people were going to vote for, not offically exit polling, and they claim ,so far, most people seem to be voting for Lamont. This was at 8AM so it's too soon to say what that means. This isn't that big of a town, the only thing here is Mohegan Sun Casino. There were no Lieberman people at the polling place.

so, 2 more votes for Lamont. :hi:

I'm sitting on pins and needles in Mass, waiting for the results.

For the world is full of zanies and fools who don't believe in sensible rules and won't believe what sensible people say
And because these daft and dewey eyed dopes keep building up impossible hopes Impossible things are happening every day.

12. Please continue to believe in the net roots no matter what happens today..
The net roots are THE reason why Lamont is a factor in today's primary - and thus a factor in why the corporate media seems to be pulling it's communal head out of it's communal asshole to ask WHY? WHY? WHY are people supporting Lamont?

Net-grass-roots -> :applause:

Beyond that, the net-roots, it seems to me, have become a really *obvious* factor on the GROUND - last night I dropped by a friend's house and caught a glimpse of the evening news and there was a little girl at a Lamont rally waving a Democracy for America sign! I have no clue whether the corporate media realized that that little girl was a member of the much maligned net-roots, but there she was!

20. I just voted
I am happy to have cast a vote for Ned, but a bit nervous that I was one of only three people there voting--- or trying to vote. One lady there hadn't changed her affiliation in time (and I don't think it was any wrong doing-- she was a Republican and the deadline passed ages ago to change your party and she thought she could just do it on the spot).

I saw both Lamont and Lieberman signs outside (Lamont had a slight edge with the signage), but by far there were the most Malloy signs. All and all it was pretty dead over at the polling. I hope the after work crowd is bigger (I'm going back there later to watch after my friend's baby while she votes. I do live in a very Republican town, so maybe turnout won't be so high here.

21. Just anecdotal but...
I'm a vendor at the New London Farmers' Market, so I got to see a lot of people today. People were saying the turnout in their districts was light. I was shocked. I will say that I didn't talk to anyone who said they voted for Lieberman. Not one. Even the old farmer next to me, who voted at 6:05 a.m. and who I thought might have been part of Lamont's base, said, "Joe's gotta go."

One of my customers said his car was broken, but he walked two miles to vote for Ned. How many of Joe's supporters would be willing to do that, I wonder?

I did ask one customer--a former New London mayor who's been campaigning for Lamont, how the New London campaign seemed to be running. Folks, they could use some help for the November election, if we make it through today. They were short-handed. No poll watchers. I'm feeling badly that I've been too busy (running two businesses, and it's crunch time for both) to do more than write a LTTE and call a few friends, but I'm vowing now to help in the general election. You all heard me! Feel free to hold my feet to the fire.

23. Turnout was low where I was
but I'm hoping that the after work crowd will be large. I live in a commuter town of NYC, so hopefully the end of the day will get a boost in my district.

24. Do you think the turn out is low because Joe's folks are waiting to vote
for him as an Independent along with the Republicans? That way they can really screw the Dems?

32. Not really.
I don't think Joe's supporters are interested in screwing Dems. It's more like they don't feel much sense of urgency, because they figure they'll get their chance to vote for him in November, regardless of how this turns out today.

31. I just went to the polling place again
Edited on Tue Aug-08-06 05:41 PM by julialnyc
I went with my sister-in-law so that I could watch her baby when she went in. I guess she passed by some Lamont people on her way in the door (and let them know that she is a Lamont voter who got third degree from her sister-in-law who was in the car), because a very nice lady come over to the car to thank me for bringing my sis to the polls and gave me stickers.

It still wasn't very busy when we arrived, but it was really picking up as we were leaving (and that's something in this ultra-Republican town).

33. What town are you in, if you don't mind my asking?
Or, if you don't want to be so specific, do you live in a rural, suburban or urban area?

Reason is, I'm hearing about record turn-out in the 'burbs, and lower turn-out in the cities, and wondering if this is good or bad news for Ned.

There were no supporters outside or anything.
