2. I basically agree, but things are more dangerous than they were

even a year ago. I do think that is hyperbole for media attention.

As far as those hands moving, the folks at the Bulletin of Atomic Scientist don't move it every week, they just do it rarely, and always have.
Perhaps they will take another assessment soon.
It is, of course, a subjective judgement, though by folks who are watching world events.
