This guy should be charged with MURDER!
A guy in Milwaukee, who has two DUI's already, last Friday while 3 times over the legal limit ran over a woman, dragging her for over a mile. :grr:

This guy deserves to be thrown in jail for LIFE!

I'd have to agree with you. :grr: Personally, I think that people convicted of DWI/DUI should have their car repossessed and destroyed, along with a (perhaps permanent) revocation of their driver's license.

It should have never had to have come to this. This story is exactly the reason why I believe as I do.

14. vehicle forfeiture
in some jurisdictions, civil forfeiture has been used on REPEAT DUI people (3 or more in a 10 yr period).

since the DUI was used to facilitate the crime, it's fair game civilly.

this is similar to how the authoritah's will go after houses, boats, planes, etc that are used to facilitate drug trafficking

same basic concept

i firmly believe that the first DUI justifies a deferred prosecution and probation

but repeat offenders should be treated significantly more harshly than they are in many states

some states make "habitual DUI" a felony

i am for that

when i used to work night shift, i knew that statistically speaking, DUI drivers were AT least as much of a danger to me as violent felons with guns, knives, etc.

4. I don't know how to keep drunk drivers off the road.
Taking away their licenses, their cars, and even jail time doesn't stop them. I don't know what the hell the solution is to this problem. Anyone have any new ideas?

5. I have an idea.
Anyone convicted of a FIRST drunk driving offense, if they drive ever again, should be thrown in jail for life.

9. Almost.
My two parents and my younger sister.

The bastard was a lawyer, (he's since been disbarred,) and tried every trick he could think of.

He lost his ass.

18. Bandaids on a sucking chest wound.
Many of the punishments we've implemented are just that, punishments. They rarely, if ever, look to the source of an issue. The source of drunk driving is drunk. The source of drunk is...? Yeah, I know, not quite as sexy or quick fix as "hang 'em high!!!" but might probably go much further to address and actually fix the source of the problem. What would have happend if we'd spent all the money we've used to try and convict drunk drivers, on...what? researching and curing alcohol addiction? lousy coping skills leading to alcohol addiction? lousy living which leads to lousy coping skills which leads to...? Pick one or the other, all or none or other(s).

What if we tried to fix/cure a problem rather than punish it and take revenge?

12. I really, really disagree
Stupidity and lack of awareness comes in all forms on the road. The gal putting on her make-up while driving, eating a cheeseburger while driving, turning around to tend to your kids while driving, talking on the cell phone while driving.

I have told my DH a couple of months ago, and I plan on making a living will, that if something were to happen to me becaue someone used bad judgement or was being careless, I wouldn't want that person to lose their life in retaliation. I think that most people don't understand how brutal a few years in prison is. I feel very strongly about this. It just feels as though it would keep the heeling process from happening.

Love & peace--you can't have that when your entire being is centered on destroying someone, no matter how justified you may be.

16. Sorry but driving drunk isn't the same as eating a burger behind the wheel
Or getting distracted by your kids. Drunk drivers are impaired drivers period, not sober drivers who are temporarily distracted. It's comparisons like that which allow drunk drivers to keep on driving, DUI after DUI after DUI. Carelessness? If you're sloshing down the booze and pick up those car keys you're being more than careless. Might as well get drunk, pick up a gun and start randomly shooting into a crowd.

As far as cellphones go, they should ban those sons a bitches from being used by any drivers other than emregency personnel. If you really can't go for a five minute drive without flapping your jaws, pull over.

11. for that i would accept
the death penalty. THAT might make them think again. but even THAT might not stop a repeat DUI. shit. when they had that new year's cull they caught 8 timers and that is just unacceptable! it only took one for my uncle to stop.
i am sick of good people being unlucky to be in the way of these bastards.
