yup.

That was the year of my political awakening.

I had just gotten out of the Army. It was during the huge draw down under Bush 1.

I was living in El Paso, Texas at the time. I had moved there to get married to my fiance of 8 years, but it didn't work out. My future was so unsure.

Among other things, I threw myself into politics. Whereas I supported the first Iraq War when I was active duty, the truth about that campaign began to slowly leak out. The economy was fucked. I couldn't find a job. I originally intended to go back to school, but first I had to get the hell out of El Paso.

Texas has open voting; you can vote for up to one month prior to the general election.

I voted that October.

On Election night, it suddenly became very cold. The winds were blowing furiously. Hard, driving rain. That type of weather is not usual for El Paso.

But I looked at it as "winds of change".

Mike Malloy just read this piece. And, curiously enough, hearing him read this brought back such vivid memories of 1992.

The Message in the Coming Lieberman Defeat: It’s More than the War

This piece is time-sensitive. And as it might have an impact, I’d call it time-urgent.

This piece, I am hoping, could help to pre-empt the media from defining the message of the election in those terms that continue to protect and serve the Bushites. Conceivably it might also help to inspire the Connecticut insurgency to come out Tuesday in greater numbers.

If, when you read it, you also believe this piece could serve some useful purpose, I hope you will help to disseminate it ahead of Tuesday’s primary. Especially if you know people who might be able to spread the word in Connecticut itself, that could be valuable.

Postscript: This piece has been posted on the Action Forum of MoveOn.org. If you believe that this piece warrants being featured prominently, one way you can help achieve that is to go to that MoveOn site and vote to give it a high rating. Higher rate pieces are given higher priority treatment. The site on which this piece appears there is
