What the fuck is up with Hollywood nowadays?
First you have Mel Gibson and his anti-Semetic rant. Then you have other Hollywood stars, like Patrick Swayze and Robert Downey Jr rushing to Mel Gibson's defense. If that isn't enough, reports are coming out that Mel Gibson is suddenly interested in doing "Lethal Weapon 5".

This on top of these "Democrat" bigwigs (ie Spielberg) supporting Adolf-er, Arnold, who never met a Nazi he didn't like.

What the fuck happened to Hollywood? We used to be able to count on these guys, now it's like everything is turning upside down.

and forgive his bad behavior. It could be as simple as that.

12. Booze and drugs
I notice most of the actors rushing to Gibson's defense have had their problems laying those particular demons to rest and will probably have to battle them for the rest of their lives.

They're hoping Gibson gets clean and sober and cleans up his act.

Remember, drunks stop developing as soon as the booze takes over. Gibson's a pretty typical 20 something jerk who thinks the way his daddy told him to think. If he manages to join Bill's friends long enough, he may devlop into a likeable character.

Right now, he's grasping at straws.

13. Devil's advocate here
Did you ever think that Mel might be a good guy when he's sober? I've known many that start drinking and turn into monsters and then realizing what they've done wrong they make amends. I'm not supporting Mel Gibson, because I am gay and I hear he hates us, but I'm just saying there was a time when we liberals were a little more understanding and not so willing to crucify so quickly. SO, maybe it's not just Hollywood that's changing.

15. I don't buy that at all
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 08:55 PM by BushOut06
I could understand if being drunk made Gibson act beligerantly - we all know people who get that way when they drink. But to start spewing off racial slurs? Going off on this tirade about how "Jews are the cause of all wars", and asking the cop if he was a Jew? Given his past history, and the environment he grew up in, it's kinda hard to assume that he doesn't harbor these views deep down.

I'm sure that Mel Gibson is a really nice guy when he is sober. And I'm sure that he tries to keep his racist views in check - I read that his bodyguard is Jewish, if that means anything.

Let's put it this way - if the arresting officer were black, and Mel started spewing the "N" word and saying that black people were the cause for the country's decay, would people be coming to his defense?

18. I believe that Gibson essentially saved Downey's career
by giving him his first film role after prison and rehab after Ally McBeal. I seem to remember hearing that they are very close friends. I haven't heard that Downey was publically supporting Gibson, but it makes sense based on their history.

19. Maybe those supporting him don't want to kick
a friend when he's down. He fucked up royally. There are those who will never forgive him and will never work with him. He'll pay a stiff price - and he deserves to. However, the measure of a true friend is someone who's there for you no matter what, and who may not like your failings, but is willing to look beyond them for friendship's sake. Looks like Gibson is fortunate to have a few of those. He'll need them.

21. yes, I was shocked today to see the Arnold support

I was wondering where Hollywood was. It's very upsetting to think that the governator could possibly lie and backstab his way into another term. He's a Bush licking NeoCon who knows how to play the part. And sadly the people will fall for it again. It makes me sick. There is such a good chance now to link him with bush, Ken Lay, Ohio, etc etc. The nurses and other unions had it right.

I am not surprised at all. I have never counted on people in the entertainment business, including Hollywood. Many of them are too busy counting their money and stroking their massive egos.

27. Hollywood and its house slaves are big corporate
The actors and actresses, are participants in propaganda, and they are not innocent.

Hollywood is in a crisis of confidence as the big studio flicks with big actors no
longer have a competetive advantage over upstarts with a computer and a digital camera.
.. except their distribution networks. I doubt that hollywood will survive as the
hegemonic capital of film it once was, and now just another corporate oligopoly with
abusive monopolist tendencies.
