Due to a well gn funds designed quirk in campaign finance laws, a congress critter can use campaign funds to pay for legal fees unrelated to the election. Like working out a plea agreement, or criminal defense.
This year, Tom DeLay (Twit-TX) apparently had no intentions of running in the general, but he raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, quit the race, and will use his war chest to try to avoid prison.
Bob Ney (Oaf-OH)apparently stayed in the race long enough to pay for his legal bills.
Now, I'd be pretty pissed off, if I paid my hard-earned dollars to buy me a Congressman, and it didn't work. I'd demand my money back! You sold me a defective product. There oughta be a law! At least Duke Stir (Crud-CA) worked for a while before he was worn out.
They just don't make 'em like they used to.
