It's actually pretty simple, if you think about it. If it works for evil, it will work for good. And it is the one thing we may be able to thank the Bush Administration and his Do-Nothing Republican Congress for showing us.
I was watching 60 Minutes recently, viewing a piece on global warming, and the narrator said something like, "We can't change over to an energy policy, that completely, without doing harm to the economy." I considered this for a moment, and then thought, "Well, that is complete BS! It can't hurt the economy any more
than the war in Iraq!"
If we are to survive the next century - and I don't mean as a country - I mean as a species - we are going to have to face some, well, inconvenient truths. Of course, I'm not telling progressives anything they don't already know. And I am not merely engaging in hyperbole, either. When the oil runs out, our whole civilization is up for grabs, and if it's the same crew running things now who come up with the most handfuls, well, I think I can fairly say we are well and truly fornicated. When the oil runs out, the light of our global civilization will flare, and die.
But...just perhaps...we can save it...using the methods...of...evil...? BWAU-HU-HU-HU-HU-HAAAAAA!!!!!!
No, seriously. Just take a look at some of what Bush has accomplished for evil, in only six years:
- Bush accomplished the largest transfer of wealth from one sector of our society to another - and it is still ongoing
- Bush privatized much of our governmental operations, turning over vital services for management by private corporations like Halliburton (I wonder - is there still such a thing as 'KP duty' in the Army?), further blurring the lines between government and big business
- Invaded a sovereign nation without actual cause, to the tune of, what, about $300 billion and counting?
- Took a surplus of hundreds of billions of dollars and converted it to trillions of dollars of debt
- Allowed the gutting of employment in America, sending jobs overseas by the factory-full
- Eroded the public education system, under the guise of strengthening it
- Killed tens of thousands of people
- Ruined the reputation and goodwill of America in the eyes of our fellow humans throughout the world
I know, the list is very incomplete. But it demonstrates what one team of sociopathic, greed-crazed whackos can do when motivated to accomplish evil. It demonstrates just how far Americans are willing to allow things to go, before
even beginning to grumble. And it demonstrates, more than anything else, the immense wealth and capability of the United States.
Thanks to Bush and his Republican lackeys, we now know - without any doubt whatsoever - that America is capable of tremendous, great, huge-a-mungous feats. We now have undeniable proof that it is well within America's capabilities to, oh, I don't know, say, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY END OUR USE OF FOSSIL FUELS FOREVER. After all, it would only take a few hundred billion dollars, and the will to make it happen.
I mean, come on! Look at the puny list of evil things I recited above! Bush and his Republican drool-kings accomplished all of this - and so much more - and they are evil, and let's face it, stupid as hell! Yet, look at all they have done!
So thank the Bush Administration and his Republican clone-servants for taking away every last excuse the moneyed interests, the big corporations, the power brokers, the lobbyists and their boot-licking politicians, the pundits and greed mongers, will ever have. No longer will they be able to say, "It cannot be done without harm to the economy, blah-blah-blah!" We now know better. The door is wide open to universal health care, regeneration of our education system, getting off of fossil fuels once and for all, and so on. It truly is possible, and through their evil acts, Bush, his Republicans, and all of their supporters, have undeniably, unquestioningly, incontrovertibly, proven it.
If it works for evil, it will work for good.
