France seeks changes to Middle East ceasefire resolution
by Tim Witcher

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) - France sought changes to a draft UN resolution drawn up with the United States that calls for an end to fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, further delaying a vote by the UN Security Council.

With fighting intensifying in Lebanon, the United States appeared less willing to amend, but has agreed to hear Arab foreign ministers who will address a special UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

Lebanon has rejected the draft resolution, presented to Security Council members on Saturday, because it does not call for withdrawal of Israeli forces from its territory.

French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said: "We are saying to the Americans: 'Let's not submit this resolution until we have taken on several amendments by the Arab League, in any case, the Lebanese government'."

1. France is at least being diplomatic asking that all parties that
will ultimately be involved have an input.

Bolton and Rice will screw it up no doubt.

2. I think it's a good move for the Sec. Council to hear from the
Arab League Foreign Ministers. There has been so little discussion across the region, outside of the increasing rhetoric from all involved, any forum that gives a voice to regional governments has to be a step in the right direction.

3. The UN should always have a Peace Keeping Force . . .
Composed of the 5 members of the Security Council(?) and ready to be deployed to areas like this to stop conflicts like this. Otherwise, the UN is ineffective.

Maybe it is only when the Messiah arrives in the NWO will we get a effective UN.
