Reuters says Mideast photographer doctored shots
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 05:22 PM by im10ashus
Before:

After:

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Reuters withdrew all 920 photographs by a freelance Lebanese photographer from its database on Monday after a review of his work showed he had altered two images from the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Global Picture Editor Tom Szlukovenyi called the measure precautionary but said the fact that two of the images by photographer Adnan Hajj had been manipulated undermined trust in his entire body of work.

"There is no graver breach of Reuters standards for our photographers than the deliberate manipulation of an image," Szlukovenyi said in a statement. (Watch how the picture looked before and after doctoring -- 1:32)

"Reuters has zero tolerance for any doctoring of pictures and constantly reminds its photographers, both staff and freelance, of this strict and unalterable policy."

1. The before picture looks bad enough. No reason to alter it. n/t

3. This is part of another Swiftboating attack on the media
for covering the Lebanon war more critically than the White House would like.

The same guy who led the Rightwing charge against CBS News for the duplicated TANG documents used in a piece about Bush's grounding and AWOL is also attacking the Reuters photographer whose photo of wounded Israeli troops ended up on Sunday's NYT cover.

The irony of this is that the photos that were lightly photoshopped didn't change their character to make them more sinister or critical.

6. This is not swiftboating. The The MSM is cutting its own throat
They need to be credible and reliable and instead they are destroying their own future. Rather and his staff never recovered from TANG, nothing Reuters does for some time will be respected either.

Was Buckhead involved in this one as well? I was directed to one of the RW blogs about this, not Freeperville.

5. In reality
the before pictures look worse than the after and the photoshopping is crude and obvious at best looks like eraser tool set to spraycan. That Charles Johnson got his hateful mug on international news (again) is the most despicable thing here.
