I met the wife of one of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers

3 weeks ago, Karnit Goldwasser, was just an average 30 year old Israeli. She was preparing for her husband, Ehud, to come home from his reserve duty. The night of July 12, everything changed.

When I heard her speak, her words were raw, and real. She never voiced any political leaning, her agenda is to see her husband again. She has traveled to France, UK, and now US, meeting with officials, looking for anyone who can help.

It's hard to imagine, what I would do if I were in her situation. It's amazing seeing "average" people, in extraordinary situations.

seems a little weird she is travelling the world, you'd think she would want to be home in case something happened

My country was acting like morons and killing people, while using said spouse as an excuse...

I'd be doing everything to get help and stopping my country from getting my spouse killed with their stupidity.

Of course, I don't know if that's what this wife is doing, but it's what I would do.

9. It's Boosh That's Prolonging This Mess

Had this regime not given Olmert the green light to got nuts with an unlimited war, and had been an honest broker to separate the sides, Ms. Goldwasser's situation would be a lot different. Its this regimes goading of Iran and Syria that's led to an embolden Hezbollah to create a confrontation as they knew the U.S. international position (and that in the Arab world) is so shitty, any Israeli over-reach (which is almost always assured) would turn into a PR victory for them. So now we have a stalemate with Israel in the middle...Hezbollah has taken the blow and the longer this war goes on the better it is for them on the PR front. For this regime, the longer Israel keeps bombing Lebanon, the more it distracts from the fiasco this regime attempts to butcher in Iraq and divert international attention away from their crimes just like how they hoodwink the Democrats and the corporate media here.

In the meantime, Mrs. Goldwasser's husband has become a pawn not between Israel and Hezbollah...where a prisoner swap or some other agreement would have been reached in more rational days...but now between Iran and the U.S....a Middle East game of chess where the U.S. is getting its ass kicked all over the board right now and taking Israel down with them.

I heard Mrs. Goldwasser on the local NPR station this morning. As you say, average people in extraordinary situations. She's doing whatever she can to keep her husband's name as part of this story. Sitting at home and waiting for the phone would mean the world losing track of her husband as events keep spinning out of control.

3. Is she asking for an immediate cease-fire?

It would seem to me that a cease-fire would hasten the possibility of the return of her husband and the other soldier captured by Hezbollah. As long as the fighting continues the return of her husband seems remote.

say she wants to see the fighting end.

8. I am glad and in full agreement, the fighting must end, the sooner

the better. I can't imagine being in her postion, I hope her husband is returned to her soon and all those captured by either side returned to their loved ones.
