I am watching Siniora in tears
as he addresses the Arab Foreign ministers in Beirut- BBC International. He said Lebanon was put back centuries by this conflict and says Israel must quit Arab lands. We will prevail - says Siniora. Standing ovation.
Meanwhile 40 Lebanese were killed in Houla.

3. In 1991 when Saddam invaded Kuwait, Papa Bush stood up and said:
"THIS WILL NOT STAND," and he also DREW THE FAMOUS LINE IN THE SAND...etc.

Where is that kind of view/position now? I am afraid the world has changed, back then, the world view was that in today's world (post cold war...etc.) no nation will be allowed to harm a neighboring country...etc.

6. Now Kuwait has said that this invasion by Israel must not stand
sad how Kuwait's views were bandied about as gospel at one time. Not anymore. Their statements condeming Israel have gone largely unnoticed.

4. Perhaps if YOU can not 'get along' with the neighbors.........
in the neighborhood, YOU should move to a new neighborhood where YOU can get along with YOUR neighbors. Israel is acting very 'bush-like' and no one wants a bully around.

7. Poor Lebanon.
And it won't prevail.

Who -will- prevail? Well, I'd say those who sell weapons, and those who get to do the rebuilding (that would be the bin Ladens).

8. This will lead to a new Arab push for the complete removal of Israel
This isn't going to end quietly. Israel, whether or not you find them the victim or the aggressor, has set its own cause back immensely. The Arab community, while never loving neighbors with Israel, has new reasons to hate them and call for the complete eradication of the Israeli state. I think they'll ratchet it up, and the entire conflict will only continue to escalate. Israel over reached on this offensive defenive strategy, and I think it portends many more bad things ahead for the entire region. No people accepts the entire destruction of a country by an "enemy" with a shrug. There will be repurcussions for Israel.

9. As usual.
It doesn't matter who startet what, it will always be an eye for an eye. One action resulting in a reaction.
It's the madness of mankind that keeps repeating itself again and again. We never learn.

11. And continuing repercussions for Arabs. Please watch this video:
VIDEO (1h20m): Peace, Propaganda & The Promised Land - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7828123714384920696

This is 'objectivity'.

Legitimate Israel is inside pre-1967 war borders. UN Resolution 242. Some give-and-take on that basis could be negotiated. The Occupied Territories of the West Bank (and some of Gaza Strip) are just that: Occupied. The Settlements, apartheid roads and checkpoints there are illegal under international law. To offer Palestinians the present carve-up (and confiscation of the best land and water) is completely unreasonable and unsustainable, and the same would apply if it turns out Israel really wants to destroy or hold on to or otherwise manipulate some or all of Lebanon.

If Israel does not give there can be no give-and-take, no hope for a negotiated two-state solution providing security and a hopefully wealthy, healthy future for as many as possible.

Damnit, if only so much educated Israeli determination and ingenuity (and wealth), and hopefully educated Arab, too, could be dedicated in a scientific and businesslike manner to alleviating water-shortage and alternative energy and -agriculture problems and other progressive, peaceful living-arrangements in what's going to continue to otherwise be an increasingly desertified world in many regions of this planet...

Lebanon demands ceasefire
Mon Aug 7, 2006 2:37 PM BST
By Lin Noueihed

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon's prime minister, choking back tears, demanded a "quick and decisive ceasefire" on Monday after an Israeli air raid that he said killed more than 40 civilians sheltering from fighting in a southern village.

As diplomatic efforts to end the 27-day-old war between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas stalled, air raids elsewhere in Lebanon killed at least 19 people.

"An hour ago, a horrific massacre took place in Houla village as a result of the intentional Israeli bombardment that resulted in more than 40 martyrs," Prime Minister Fouad Siniora told an emergency Arab foreign ministers meeting in Beirut.

His eyes brimming with tears as he spoke about the suffering of civilians, Siniora demanded a quick ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.

"It is imperative that the Israeli enemy stops its aggressive actions and withdraw immediately ..., hand it (territory) over to international forces, exchange prisoners, and reveal landmine maps," he said.

<snip>

Residents of Houla said they feared up to 60 people, including many children, had been killed. They said most of the people were shepherds who had refused to flee the fighting.

12. Wait for the official body count.
By 'official', I don't mean "Lebanese government."

Siniora is also a wiley croc.

16. Because they will lose lobbyist money???
Really, they are more concerned with reelection than dead Arabs. I finally realized the truth of this during this conflict. And I am appalled.

14. Siniora in emotional plea for truce
Fouad Siniora has renewed demands for a quick ceasefire with Israel and called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from south Lebanon.

Choking with emotions as he described his people's suffering during 27 days of conflict, the Lebanese prime minister told Arab foreign ministers at an emergency meeting in Beirut on Monday that he remained committed to a seven-point peace plan endorsed by his cabinet.

"We need a quick and decisive ceasefire," he told the meeting.

"It is imperative that the Israeli enemy stops its aggressive actions and withdraw immediately ..., hand it (territory) over to international forces, exchange prisoners, and reveal land mine maps."
