Breaking...Rob Ney quitting race
Senator: Bob Ney Won't Seek Re-Election

By JOE DANBORN
Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, dogged by an influence peddling probe in Washington, will not seek re-election, state Sen. Joy Padgett said early Monday.

Ney called Padgett on Saturday and asked the fellow Republican to run in his place, saying that defending himself has been a strain on his family, she said.

"It's a very sad time," Padgett said of Ney's decision, first reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on its Web site.

She said Ney told her, "that there's only so much he can take. He said, 'I have to do this.'"

Padgett told The Associated Press she would run for Ney's seat.

of the truth catching up to their crimes...

7. "...only so much I can take..." (And I wanted to take so much, much more.)
Boy, if Democrats can't make hay out of this imbecilic bit of misspeak, it's a crying shame.

Another greedy, ham-fisted user who's corrupt to the bone finally sees the futility of his cause. Great day in the morning.

The word "take" should be chorused like cicadas on a hot summer day. The Republicans are the party of raging selfishness, and many of them have been emboldened by their seeming safety that they flout all caution.

Fine: let them cite corrupt Dems; the list of gluttonous apparatchiks on their side goes on well into the night.

For all of the many reasons why the monarchists should go in November, perhaps the best leverage can be gotten on the topic of grotesque graft.

10. In other words
Ney will probably be indicted in the next few days.

That's the only thing that makes these bastards quit.

11. And we have a winner
Bob Ney RUINED this state, he profiteered on the backs of the working poor. ASK me how much I had to pay into the Worker's Comp system the first half of this year, as small business owners, with a hubby who BARELY pays himself.

No wait, I will tell you - more than $1,300.00. And THAT on a single employee (hubby) who pays himself damn near NOTHING as a salary and works more than 60 hours a week (hard, outdoor work too) to make that pittance.

I better stop right now.

12. If your husband is self employed
he might not have to carry workman's comp.

At least, that's the way it is down here in FL. My husband and I are both excluded from our WC policy. Of course, the insurance companies won't tell you this and you have to sign a waiver that you know the risk you are taking. But why would I sue myself?

16. In Ohio, he is considered owner/employee
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 07:02 AM by mtnester
as opposed to supplemental employees who are not also the owner, and YES, we have to pay in to it if he works. ANYONE we pay a salary to of any kind has to pay into the system..whether they are partner, temp employees, permanent employees, etc.

So unfortunately, not the same as Florida.

One hopes we could pick it up, but he may just do what Delay tried to do and get a new Repuke to run

21. What's the catch?
Either he's about to come under indictment, or this is just another piece of the GOP's grand plan to manipulate the elections. I'm glad to hear this repugnant Repuke won't be running, but I keep wondering what's the catch?

There's always a catch with these criminals.

22. The catch
is that this district will be a tough pick-up for the Dems. Ney gone does not mean that we can win that seat, and it also takes one of the principla characters in the Abramoff scandall off the board and out of the spotlight.

26. I would hope the Dems up there don't allow this to fall out of the
spotlight. They need to keep it front and center as we head into November. I know a lot of Repugs that are getting really sick of their party, and its shenanigans.
