Whatever happened to truth in advertising
My niece and I were at the movies today and, prior to the picture starting, the theater ran several commercials. One was for the National Guard in which Guard members (or actors playing Guard members) do a rah-rah recruiting spiel stressing how the Guard is around to help in times of natural disasters. They mention several things, fires, floods, hurricanes and then as an after thought add "and the war on terror" (I swear to God, this last line was practically mumbled and the Guard member who spoke it didn't get as much face time as the others. There was, of course, no mention actual mention of Iraq. Watching this ad, you'd think no one was ever sent overseas.

The only comfort I took was that several audience members (besides my niece and I) made noises of disgust at the mention of the "war on terror".

2. Truth in advertising, truth in politics, and truth in war
There ain't never been such things, ain't never will be.

I'd have had trouble not hurling something at the screen with the menton of hurricanes, though.

5. Truth in ANYTHING is a rare commodity these days............
the propaganda and spin machine is destroying our credibility in business, politics, government etc.

6. "Truth" is just such a quaint idea.
That word died a tragic death years ago.

8. Every time I go to the movies and hear that ad
(I refuse to actively watch movie ads), I think "Yeah, because if they just said "...the war in Iraq," no wide-eyed innocent kids would dare to sign up. They want to make it sound like 'Join the National Guard and help save people in a flood.' Sure."

9. I hear you, and there probably will be none, because it's
more profitable to lie.
