Dead On A Slab In Iraq For 9 months With No Family Contact Or Next...
Of Kin Having Been Notified: just back in from a sunday breakfast where our bartender seemed a little down this morning. hubby asked him how he was doing, he replied, "Oh, i'm fine." but he was down and hubby keyed upon it asking him further, "What's wrong?" he being otherwise a very buoyant, outgoing person.

he told us his partner was in the military, but had just received word that his female friend had been killed in iraq some 9 months ago, and has been laying on a slab in a makeshift morgue for 9 months, without the army having made, clearly, much more than the barest of cursory attempts to contact her family or next of kin...

they finally contacted him knowing that he had been in her company, and that he has had to contact her family. and that the entire experience has made his partner very sad indeed...

what is wrong with this country? what has happened to us?

3. Perhaps this is how we keep our casualty rate down,
by releasing the information only when it suits our purposes.

I think our country is gone.

12. I'm slightly confused.
Was this a member of the military who had no next of kin to notify? How sad and strange. Or did the military simply not get around to notifying next of kin? Weren't the next of kin wondering why they hadn't heard from her is so long? Again, how strange and sad.

16. And in nine months
no family or friend ever inquired about her?

Is there any family, do you know?

19. I agree Sheila. Very odd. When my husband was over there even
back when communication was much harder if I hadn't heard from him in even a month, I would have been camped out on the family services contacts door step and calling all the press. I also would have contacted other family members in the unit and asked them about contact with their family members and asked them to get info for me on my husband. Sorry, but this sounds really weird to me.
