El Pretzeldente's summer reading list
Practically as soon as he arrived, Mr. Bush began doing what he likes best, getting back to nature in the blistering heat. He spent Friday “brush cutting and trail clearing, followed by a bike ride,” said Tony Snow, the White House press secretary. The president also has several books on his summer reading list, Mr. Snow said, including two about Abraham Lincoln, another wartime president whose decisions were sometimes extremely unpopular.

So I did some research to see what books el pretzeldente was reading.

Here is a classic he should enjoy.

This is a Step Into Reading title. Should be easy enough to read all my himself. Or a good read aloud for his staff.

1. Nice to see him comparing himself to Lincoln.
If only he had the intelligence and dignity of the Great Emacipator.

6. See? Bush is like Lincoln - they're both visionaries
... both were/are disparaged by the short-sighted antagonists of their respective eras. Got it?

5. Did he ever finish My Pet Goat?
I understand that it is a subtle postmodern metaphor for the inability of Lacanian psychoanalysis to account for homo-erotic undertones in "The Barnyard." wink wink

9. He was interrupted, yet again, last year, while trying to finish "My Pet
Goat". Dang Katrina cut the vacation short.

13. He's a real Renaissance man, isn't he.
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 03:44 PM by herbster
I looked up the meaning. A Renaissance man is one who when given a choice of ways to spend his time, will, "clear brush, ride his mountain bike along scrubby trails, curl up with a book or kick up his feet for an afternoon siesta."

That's our Bush.

(Did he clear brush at the family compound in Kennebunkport before his handlers created the "Rancher Bush Summer Theatre" back in 2000? I doubt it- it's a passion Junior acquired late in life.)
