Prediction: Rumsfeld is gone by Labor Day.
He'll be forced out, not by the anti-war sentiment, but because he has failed to secure Iraq's oil fields. Oil production in Iraq is down and needed infrastructure repairs are not being completed because it's simply too dangerous. I think Hillary knows this and that's why she went after Rumsfeld the other day. Even his trusted Generals took the opportunity to distance themselves from Rummy. I think he's dead meat. How long can he last? What's your prediction?

1. With the recently defeated Joe Lieberman selected to replace him
to give the Iraqi War a "bi-partisan" touch.

4. Now, why did you have to say that?
That's actually painful to read. And probably quite accurate.

16. You read my mind
I just stated that yesterday on another forum. Perhaps Lieberman already knows what is going down on that score, and that is why he has practically conceded already in the primary in CT by stopping his on the ground get out the vote work. Just imagine what that would do for the corporate masters who want to prolong this war of empire. I shudder at the thought, but I think if Rumsfeld does go this is a very possible scenario.

2. He'll hold on until Veterans' Day
But only because that would be funnier, and nobody celebrates VJ Day anymore.

5. Dream On. Where are they gonna find a hard-line loyalist to the
Bush Crime family with only 2 years left? This is a sinking ship folks.
He is completely delusional, only Joseph Goebels was more convincing in his hard liner approach to the sinking ship.

10. He'll keep quiet, one way or another.
He's old, he's tired of being beaten up, he's too arrogant to wait till he's fired, he'll resign.

put Condo in charge of rebuilding Iraq? But I do think that Crummy has lost it. My concern is what his reason be? Will it be "to spend more time with the family?"

11. GoP is running races avoiding Bush
Between the GOP strategists, they've developed a strategy that keeps GOP candidates from being linked to Bush.

Here in Ohio, the news media is linking DeWine to Dems at every opportunity, trying to paint him as a moderate. They can keep Rummy with no damage to their races.

12. I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Cheney has been pulling the strings for this puppet show from the very beginning. Have you ever noticed how Cheney talks out of the corner of his mouth, like a ventriloquist.
Everything the wooden dummy Rumsfeld & junior sez is coming from dickie boy. He even does Condi extremely well.

14. He's been rumored to be on his way out
since July 2001. Unfortunately, I don't think the neocons will elect to launch him at this point. To make a major upset in the cabinet worthwhile,
they would need to find a new leader of the DoD to oversee a total revamping of how we are handling Irag and the War on Terra. And who could they get to develop this new vision to replace the pit of no hope Rummy has dug for himself? It is too much to hope that there is ANY available thinking individual who would work for these maniacs and who would take this on at this point as it would require original, innovative thinking to get us back to a functional DoD again.

IMHO, if he does leave, they will recycle one of their own existing staffers to carry on the insanity. (sigh)

And not because they don't love him to pieces -- just because they think it will help with the election.

they can't announce a complete withdraw, so I think they'll put a new face on the war and that means no Rummy.

23. I think it's possible. A shakeup by replacements might be seen
by their worried followers as a positive step toward fixing things before the 08 elections.

Otherwise, not sure about who would replace who, but see it as possible.

24. It's a wonder any of them are still in power.
The carnage continues unabated. We don't even get Iraq on the news anymore - it is what it is now, a chronic problem.
The Fitzgerald investigation is archive material now.
The Clown Prince, Rove, is back in action after virtually everyone in the country knows exactly what he is - a lying huckster at best.
The de facto "president" and his lap dummy have not come up with one constructive idea or plan in their entire term - yet they still are in power.
The inferno rages on, started carelessly by fools. People are horrifically abused, murdered, and/or imprisoned.
The Constitution of our own country is ignored and rebuked.
The Congress and Senate are irrelevant.
The Judiciary is stained by partisanship.
The People are virtually invisible to this administration.
...and the band plays on.

Anything less than this administration collasping in disgrace before 2008 will be all but assuring the demise of the American democracy.

27. He'll leave for health reasons in early '07
when the attention turns from '06 to '08 and be replaced with their '08 nominee who will magically withdraw our troops, after which the media will prop him up as the new hero of the repug party.

But it won't be enough.

28. Rumsfailed gone?
This is a hard one to predict.

There are some vast, powerful forces keeping him in that position. Like the military industrial complex, the war machinery, the contractors, CACI, Titan, Blackwater and so on. They do not want to see him gone. They have made so much money off these wars (Iraq & Afgh.) no way are they ready to turn off the spigot.

Then on the other hand, you have everybody else: the politicians, the public, the Generals & the armed forces themselves who are bitching loudly about this man. They have been for years, literally. Even the Repub ideologues like Bill Kristol who have started criticizing this old guy.

The bottom line is, everybody except the war profiteers are upset with this old Fool. He really is stupid, inept, can't do anything right. The military is starting to come apart at the seams because of his shitty management.

The question is, who will win: the profiteers or the rest of us? Hard to tell.

are numerous. When the worm turns, it will be quick and ugly.
