Holy Crap! Gary Hart REALLY FUCKING GETS IT
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 09:01 AM by Beetwasher
Depending on the fate of Senator Joe Lieberman on Tuesday, it should come as no surprise to anyone when (not if) the Bush administration announces a dramatic plan to exit Iraq sometime before the Congressional elections this fall.

--SNIP--

Since, with precious few exceptions, political careers trump principle, and since the cabal of neoconservatives and the religious right intend to govern forever, the genius Karl Rove will concoct a patently phony Iraq exit strategy.

But even as President Bush rolls out the bogus plan in the Rose Garden, surrounded by trembling Congressmen, and claims "victory" in Iraq, work will continue around the clock on the American fortress in central Baghdad and on the permanent military garrisons in the countryside.

It was all forecast years ago in the final scene of the movie Three Days of the Condor when the CIA official Higgins explains to the naive CIA research character portrayed by Robert Redford: "Of course it's about the oil. Do you think the American people care how we get it? They just want us to get it."

1. Gary Hat has gotten it for a long time on many levels
It's yoo bad he blew his preidential chances with that incident during his campaign.

If not for that, he'd be the perfect type of presidentiual candidate who could appeal both to the moderate and more liberal factions of the Democrats.

17. I second that. One of the truly great Dems taken down by sex scandal
and vicious attacks by the RW. He is very, very smart and articualte.

2. Hart shines. He's been a favorite of mine for a while. In 1984 the
party would have been better served with Hart than with Mondale, and unfortunately the extra-marital affair took Hart out of voters' consideration.

Hart-Rudman warned of the jets/skyscraper possibility long before it happened.

9. I'm not real sure I need to see those pics, but I think they'd make
for a real thrilling news cycle.

Larry King would likely do one of his famous panel shows, repeating the footage of Bush's naked dancing every five minutes.

A week or two before the November election would be a good time.

13. Ironical that the American people were denied another good
Democratic leader, thanks to a Republican witch-hunt that had precious little to do with politics, and everything to do with the private life of a strong Democratic candidate, which no-one but his political enemies were interested in.

21. He would have been a very persuasive president, I think. An international
celebrity, to boot.

Handsome, out-west rugged and intelligent. A very capable soul.

Mondale opted for the dumbed-down "Where's the Beef" sloganeering. I still resent Mondale for that. OK for the poolroom, but it doesn't pass muster as public discourse.

10. Monkey Business
"There is a chance for the President of the United States to use this (9-11) disaster to carry out ... a new world order." (Gary Hart, at a televised meeting organized by the CFR in Washington, D.C. Sept 14. 2001)

16. No. You've got it wrong. He might have been President, if it
weren't for the monkey business of his Republican opponents.

There's monkey business and there's monkey business. I think we all know which is the worst in the context of political office.

18. Gary Hart brought his defeat upon himself.
Donna Rice, who brought an end to Gary Hart's 1988 campaign for US ...
Gary Hart was more than 20 percentage points ahead of the field when he was photographed with Donna Rice sitting on his lap, on a yacht out in the Atlantic ...

19. You miss the point entirely. Lloyd George was an adulterous old
goat, who kept a mistress for many years, but he was also the man the government of the day appointed to rectify the scandalous mismanagement of armaments procurements for the British troops during WWI - which he did to singular effect. He was also responsible for introducing the old-age pension.

Bill Clinton was the best President the US has ever had, bearing in mind the ever-present menace of your demonic military-industrial complex and its political minions.

Solomon was the wisest ruler in the world for many years, before his besetting sin of thinking with his gonads finally got the better of him.

24. Newt Gingrich goes unscathed in spite of his double-triple lives
He always finds yet another woman while he is married, and the latest one,he left his wife for really got a sweet deal to sleep with him.....There's certainly a lot of hypocricy in the republican-fascist party. :freak: They don't do anything for the economics of this country, and can't tout that aspect so they go after their opponent's personal lives, when they are doing the same thing, or worse!

25. Newt was fucking around while he was attacking Clinton
And the GOP's lies often result in pain, suffering, poverty, and lots of dead bodies. I know it sucks. But Gary Hart would have seriously challenged Reagan and Bush and made a great president but it's a damn shame that his marital infidelity ruined it. Personally, I don't give a shit what our politicians do in their personal lives since they are all fucking around, as long as they govern effectively with the people's needs in mind.

I believe most of us have a few things in our past we probably aren't too proud of, and that's why it's so hypocritical to delve into anyone's personal life. I believe Gary Hart is a very intelligent man, but they got him on his weakest point. We wouldn't be in the messes we're in today if we could have had Gary Hart or Al Gore for president.

If we only had a free press in this country, and not the one-sided bigots we have, we could then judge people on their merits. The news media picks our president.

Every night, when the republicans were trying to get rid of Bill Clinton, I remember Dan Rather starting out with his "lead story" about the crisis at the White house, pertaining to yet another win by the republicans vs. Clinton/Monica. He's too good a reporter to bring himself down to the level of the scum bags, but I guess he felt it was necessary.

23. Great observation, but quote not from "Condor".
There is no reference to oil in the movie "Three Days of the Condor". The quote must come from something else.

At the end of the movie (spoiler, don't read on if you prefer), Redford threatens to send all the information he has to the New York Times if anyone comes after him. His nemisis says "How do you know they'll print it?" "They'll print it" responds Redford. "Are you sure?" replies the CIA villan.
