Florida voters deeply divided on key issues
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/15206141.htm

A full 87 percent of Democrats oppose the war. In contrast, 76 percent of Republicans support the war. The divide over the war, Zogby said, also plays out in how Florida voters feel about Bush. He gets favorable marks from 85 percent of Republicans, while an almost equal percentage of Democrats, 83 percent, rate him unfavorably.

''Bush's numbers are way down in most places and the No. 1 precipitate is the war,'' said Zogby. ``The war is the elephant in the living room.''

But while the president's overall numbers from Republicans remain positive, a region-by-region breakdown shows that South Florida Republicans aren't as upbeat as Republicans from the rest of the state. Republicans from Central Florida and North Florida gave higher marks to Bush and were more optimistic about the future of the country. Fewer than 50 percent of South Florida Republicans said the country was headed in the right direction.

1. And further evidence that South Florida ...
should secede from the rest of the state.

3. Out of Florida or South Florida
I moved to central Fl two years ago and am pretty sure I made a big mistake, except I LOVE being close to the ocean - why do all the stupid states have good weather and the ocean?

18. Bad News,,, Most People I Talk To Are Backing Jennings!
Not me though. You want to know one of the reasons why? They think she looks better, and I mean "looks" better! Schneider has it all over Jennings when it comes to issues and smarts, but it doesn't look good.

Just another dip into the viper pit!

23. To This I Also Agree...
I'm still a Schneider supporter... I'm pretty Liberal. Regardless, I doubt either one will win.

I do think if many would stick it out with Schneider, she might have had a chance, but as you know, it's pretty TAME here!

4. If Ever There Was A Land Of Divide It's In A Place Once
known as Paradise, the place so many people have always wanted to come to visit or move to.

So let me tell you that I, as one who has lived here for many many years, and whose husband is a native (an oddity) know full well of what he speaks. I've commented many times that those of us who live here in this county are the "three strikes, you're out District" of Cruella the Witch herself.

And the 3-strikes we have had to live with for 6 years are The Idiot in D.C. his criminal cohort of a brother in Tallahassee, and then of course our own little Darlin... Katherine "Cruella" Harris! I can tell you it doesn't take much these days to simply want to retaliate in some way. My level of frustration has grown by leaps and bounds and days of depression are all too common!

I frequently post that "we the people" need to rise up and take back our country because having to live through this nightmare hits you square in the face every day! Up until the last year, political activism for me has been almost non-existant. To know that you will be defeated before you even begin is a realization that is overwhelming. I hear all too often, get involved locally, and I have but activism here is a lonely adventure. Too many times I've gone to meetings only to come away with the feeling of a deflated balloon. It's not that there aren't Democrats here, it's just that most of them feel the same dispair as I do. All too often I say "let's do something" knock on doors, come help me put up posters just "do something" but I have yet to get ONE person who has been willing to do this. I take that back, my daughter has helped me 2 times and we were "the only army" out there. There has been more going on, some Democrats have ventured out and we do out little things, but that's only started this past year. Where many places have thousands and thousands at a rally... we have maybe 200 tops! And that was only once so far. I volunteered to get people to sign petitions for a paper ballot, but we we HAD to say it was NON-PARTISAN or we would be reported. I'm sure most KNEW it wasn't non-partisan, but we couldn't even answer any questions on ANYTHING if we were asked! That was weird! It was also DIFFICULT!

Last week I went to a meeting and there were 45 people there, and I was completely shocked as were most of the others. This is not normal here. Do I have hope.... not really, but I do wish a lot. Maybe THIS time we will make some noise together. I doubt we will elect ANY Democrats but it was nice seeing that many of "us" in one room at the same time. Re-generated by that meeting I stay committed to ridding America of this scourge, but how I long for some real, down and out, let's go get 'em ACTIVISM!

5. What does it say about someone that supports a war of aggression?

I don't think most Florida Republicans are very well informed and it's unfortunate that 17% of Florida DEMOCRATS support President Bush.

Who will inform these people? They "must" not know what they're doing when it comes to issues of war and peace and goodwill to ALL people wherever they live.

9. No One Pays Much Attention To You... Even If You're Standing
on your head, spitting wooden nickles! They make you feel like you're some idiotic gnat and a couple of swats and you will disappear! We have a lot of Independents here, but about 37% Repuke population... so let's see... YOU do the math!

As I just posted, there are some rumblings going on, but it's not a place to "spread your wings and fly!" The "gray" eagle lives here, but has clipped wings! You rarely hear anyone say they are liberal at all, you hear Progressive and that's about as deep as it gets.

Since I still have bumper stickers on my car, people do come up to me and say "that's great" and you feel a little high for a little while. During the last election I went to rallies in St. Pete & Tampa and they were big, we thought for sure Kerry would win, many said it out loud but in the end, after the initial RAGE... it was hard to pick yourself back up.

12. Oh I believe Kerry did win this state - at least that was the intent
what I have found here on the Space Coast even the folks I meet who call themselves Dems are very ill informed. I live in Tom Feeney's district and I bet there aren't more than a handful here that even know about Clint Curtis. I moved into one of these god foresaken gated communities - only because I like the house. The gate is stupid and I'm afraid most of the people living in here are too. But there was a bit of hope at an HOA board meeting one of the women asked about my bumper stickers - she said she loved them - but I had to be very careful around here. Well f that I'm not going to be very carefuly around here these stupid people can bite me...they are as dumb as those people in KS who vote against their own best interest....could our property taxes and home insurance rates go much higher....could they count are damn votes fairly - just asking

16. Don't Get Me Started On Insurance! I Just Went Round & Round
last week trying to get insurance for my mother-in-law's mobile home. It's Citizens or it's NOTHING! One whole day and some nit-wit in Tallahassee tells me that I should contact my Representative!!!

She lives with us, but because she has Alzheimer's and her living will says her place can't be sold until she passes on, we have to keep it insured! Plus, because it's a mobile home older than 25 years, it HAS to be insured for at least $30,000.00! The mobile home is on a lake in Hernando, the land is worth some money.... but the mobile home.... a joke. Where once she paid around $350.00 a year, it's now $1374.00! I've had 3 different insurance companies in 4 years and just got a notice a couple of months ago telling me that POE is leaving, but since I'm paid up til Feb. '07 they will keep me on til then. Neither one of us has ever made any claims, but my insurance costs are phenomenal! I do live very close the the Gulf, but have yet to experience any hurricane damage. It has NEVER flooded here in the 21 years I've lived in this house, even though it HAS flooded in places further inland... I HAVE to have flood insurance too! I would anyway, but man do you get socked.

And taxes?? We own 5 acres further south in North Port, they went up from $1200.00 last year to $3100.00 this year! It's up for sale now, but the bubble is upon us!! I know the taxes aren't going to go down even though they say that many are lowering their prices by at least 2-3%, my taxes will probably go up. I just pray that when "season" is here this year that we can sell the land! And we are strickly middle-class, my husband worked for GTE before it was Verizon. I am glad that we bought the acreage back in '89, it was very cheap and it was a good investment and I do think it will sell some day. Tomorrow would be nice.

My daughter lives in a deed-restricted place and she absolutely hates it now. No yard signs, no bumper stickers, grass can't grow over a certain height and on and on!

I truly wish something could be done about the insurance though! Oh, one more thing this nit-wit told me when I told him she only has SS as income... he said we could either pay it for her or she could do without! He was ALL HEART, just my kind of guy!!

19. And Yes... Kerry Did Win... I Have Never Thought Otherwise!
I actually think Schneider beat Harris too, but there's that brick wall thingie!!

I really really like Schneider and she's getting a raw deal. You know I watched the McKinney Debate and even though she's abrasive and she has those tendencies, she had it all over Foster. I think that was his name. I can't remember and I sound stupid. He just didn't "have it!"

It's kind of like that for Schneider, she has it... but it seems many Democrats want another "flavor!" Stuck On Stupid, and I shouldn't say that about Dems, but kind of looks that way.

20. Where You Live Is Almost As Bad As Here....
but they did vote for Kerry last time out! That was a big surprise cause that place has always been "Christian Country!" I'm sure it's changed from 12 years ago though, many new people moving there.

13. BTW... Welcome To DU!
I'm trying to keep this kicked, but can see that it's dying. In all reality, I do think there is an under current of dissent, but too many have been beaten down and have lost the ability to believe.

When you really think about the numbers who voted for Gore & Kerry, you know it's there. You just can't tap into it. Malaise is a good word. And this upcoming election is going to be LAME!

Bill Nelson has no worries so I doubt many will turn out. I'm not alone when I say that even WHEN I vote, I have very little faith that it's going to get counted. What is even worse is that NOTHING is being done to fix it. People don't know what to do or who to contact around here. Cruella won't even acknowledge that you exist, there is NO representation for us, so for far too many it's seems futile to try. That IS THE TRUTH!

I'm outta here now... going back to reading my book!
