Lebanon 'does not agree' with UN cease-fire draft

By Shlomo Shamir, Haaretz Correspondent and Agencies

<snip>

U.S. President George W. Bush has signed off on the draft and is "happy with the progress being made," his spokesman said Saturday.

But Bush knows there could be a long road before violence stops, White House press secretary Tony Snow said.

"I don't think he has any delusions about what lies ahead," said Snow, accompanying Bush on his vacation to his private ranch.

Bush did not have any plans to speak to other foreign leaders Saturday, Snow said, including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. "I don't know if he needs to," Snow said. "I haven't heard Olmert complaining."

++++++++++++++

Guess Olmert is the only one BushCo consider important enough to speak with.

1. I find it disheartening...
that the US has basically forced the Israeli perspective onto the UN. Basically this thing gives Israel permission to continue the fighting, and remain inside Lebanon, so what exactly does this resolution do?

If this passes, all it will be is more ammunition against Hezbollah and Lebanon when they refuse to disarm, or stop the fighting. They have offered their side nothing.

As much as I'd like to see the fighting stop, I don't think it's realistic when one side is validated and the resolution is a smokescreen for continued violence.

2. Exactly--they have strong-armed
the idea of immediate cease fire out of the resolution. The French lost. Lebanon disagrees. And Chimpy continues to lord it over everyone.
