Lawsuit claims House candidate threatened opponent's wife
SAM HANANEL
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - The wife of a Republican candidate in Missouri's 4th Congressional District has sued one of her husband's opponents, accusing him of making threats over the phone.

Janice Noland alleges that businessman Alan Conner (also a Republican) called her in mid-July demanding to talk. When she refused and hung up, the lawsuit claims, Conner called back and left a threatening message on her answering machine, saying, "I will bring you down."

Conner and Noland's husband, former state legislator Jim Noland, are among four Republicans competing in Tuesday's primary in the west-central Missouri district. The winner faces longtime Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton in November.

Janice Noland, a practicing attorney, filed suit July 26 in southwest Missouri's Dallas County Circuit Court. She alleges Conner also threatened to sue her and report her to the Missouri Bar.

1. That's one positive to all of this
Even if Republicans gain overwhelming political power, it will eventually dissipate if for no reason other than they will fight themselves for power, and they're the first to throw someone under the bus as long as it benefits them. They want power as a party, but they want power individually even moreso. If the day comes where Republicans are an overwhelming majority, one of their biggest challenges will come from their own, power-hungry party. Hell, you're starting to see this sort of stuff like this already (as this article shows).

2. They are doing the same thing here in KS
We had our primary elections this past Tuesday. The repukes were so nasty - reminded me of bush on mccain in SC 2000. (Such role models!)

3. I'm not an attorney, but I didn't think threatening to sue someone was
against the law???? As far as "I will bring you down" comment, I'd bet that's one of the most common statements made by one opponent to another in the world of politics!

What's wrong with this nut????

6. They're eating other here in TN, too.
In the Senate primary run, Van Hilleary and Bryant both smeared Corker, and Corker smeared them both. Even in Van Hilleary's concession speech in which he said he would support Corker he had to get in a final dig, saying "well, obviously, he spent more money."

Meanwhile, during the smear campaigns, Ford's numbers went up.

7. I thought Republicans were opposed to frivolous law suits....
Oh right---that's only when the suits involve gross Corporate negligence or Medical maleficence....
