Republicans face working vacation to survive

Thomas Ferraro

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican lawmakers will spend their month-long vacation trying to dispel criticism of a "do-nothing" U.S. Congress, ease concerns about the Iraq war and persuade unhappy voters to re-elect them in November.

"For this summer vacation, re-election is job one," said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political science professor who tracks congressional races. "Many Republicans are scared, and they should be."

The Senate took off early on Friday, a week after the House of Representatives left town, uncertain whether either chamber would still be in Republican hands next year.

Many Democratic and Republican lawmakers, particularly those in leadership roles, are forgoing sun and fun for town-hall meetings and campaign speeches as they jockey for position before the November 7 election.

2. They are actually going to "WORK"
quick somebody send them the Dummies guide to work for work deprived, lobbyist enabled congressmen. Maybe there's an audiotape they can listen to as they actually "drive" themselves
thru their districts, actually I think they'll keep their drivers. Nothing like getting carried
away.

3. Poor things.
Maybe they'll get a kick out of trying to dodge some eggs and rotten tomatoes.

4. Lies and Deception are HARD "WERK"
Don't cry for the Pukes though. Soon, they can take a permanent vacation. Lot's of brush to be cleaned at the pig-farm.

I recommend that they look at putting some "trial lawyers" on retainer while they're at it.

They're going to need 'em come January.

5. Please don't work on your vacation
Just yuck it up with Texas oil millionaires and drink daiquiris. We've seen your work. We don't like it.

6. I think I heard on Mother Jones that the House only meets for 100 days
a year now. Wish I could get a gig like that. :eyes:

7. Gee, maybe they should have done their JOBS
while they were in session, addressing the problems that 90% of us are facing rather than trying to fatten the other 10%. Maybe they should have submitted a clean minimum wage bill instead of dicking around with stupid constitutional amendments to restrict rights and which only religious wack jobs and bigots were happy with.

I hope they are turned out of office. And I hope they look in a mirror to figure out why. It's not the little tin Jesus in the White House, fellas, it's YOU.
