BREAKING: Donzella James Contesting Primary in Georgia

By Matthew Cardinale, News Editor and National Correspondent, Atlanta Progressive News (August 04, 2006)

(APN) ATLANTA -- US Congressional Candidate Donzella James has filed a legal contest of the results of her Primary race against US Rep. David Scott (D-GA), Atlanta Progressive News has learned. The suit has been filed in State Court in Fulton County, Georgia.

The lawsuit asserts Georgia’s election “results” are meaningless because they run on E-voting machines which have no verifiable paper trail or audit system.

“People know there’s a problem with auditing these machines. But no opponent has ever challenged after the race,” Donzella James told Atlanta Progressive News.

The lawsuit also lists instances of machine breakdowns and malfunctions in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District during the Primary. These instances are similar to those documented by US Rep. Cynthia McKinney’s (D-GA) Campaign in the 4th District, and discussed exclusively by Atlanta Progressive News.

The lawsuit is believed to set a national precedent.

“Good, I’m glad she’s challenging, she should!” Brad Friedman of the noted elections integrity website, BradBlog, said in a phone interview.

The Donzella James Campaign isn’t taking the same approach as say, Kerry/Edwards 2004. They aren’t trying to calculate the known malfunctions to see if they add up to greater than the margin of vote difference between more progressive James and the moderate Scott (35%). The point is, because of the lack of a paper trail, there is no way to determine how many unknown malfunctions there are.

8. She could be a little stronger against the war..
From her site:

War on Terrorism
Donzella sympathizes with the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She believes that the war on terrorism is a nonpartisan issue in which we all must stand together during this critical period in our history. She supports our armed forces, and she will provide our service men and women the necessary resources to achieve their objectives to protecting the people of the United States.

If you have a system of voting that allow rampant cheating
You likely end up with a crook each and everytime

There no end to the kind of griefs that you guys will have to suffer being under such leaders.
Fix the problem here you likely dont have to face so much shity mess.

42. stand together on killing Iraqi men, women and children?
wow, with her pro war stance, she should be a shoe-in

I can't believe that more GOPers didn't cross over for her in
the primaries.

But since she is contesting the election, I guess it
isn't politically correct to challenge her pro war stance.

43. Start a new thread.
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 08:53 PM by JimDandy
Email her to get her views on the Iraqi War. She hasn't put up anything on her site about that--only about the War on Terrorism. Are they one and the same thing to her? Her stance on the war should be examined, as should every candidates', but this thread isn't the place to do it.

"I can't believe that more GOPers didn't cross over for her in the primaries."

Perhaps they did! That's the problem with e-voting and especially on D*bold machines.

Bring on the recount! Bring on the recount!

44. Yes, so start a new thread with flyingobject about this.
That paragraph is very nebulous. There is nothing in it that speaks directly to the Iraq War and there is nothing on her site about it. We need to know every candidate's stance on the Iraq War. Would you email James to get her views on it and tell us what she says. Flyingobject is interested in the same thing, so maybe you can collaborate on that.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1826719&mesg_id=1833197

Since that issue isn't even related to the subject of her contesting the election, though, would you two please start a new thread for that. Thanks.

E-voting, Is it really ME voting? We want transparent elections!! Bring on the recount!

17. very good. I hope she has proof though. Without proof...she may have set
us back.

With regards to the kerry/Edwards slam, she has two more years of research and facts to support her claims than they did in 04.

Also, when are people going to remember the news that Kerry/Edwards have a lawsuit coming up this month in Ohio.

Geez...maybe they need to highway blog their lawsuit in order for DU and other people to remember that it's out there and that they're still fighting.

Would occur to me that a few good lawyers could bring civil suits against many of the principles here.

The candidates who lost the bucks could prove fraud and the other side would have a hard time proving otherwise

Gad.. I still can't believe that our Presidential Election is not a National Holiday. If we can sit on our asses and roast hot dogs EVERY YEAR for Labor Day...WTF can't we make the most important day a holiday..???

Oh, I know why..cause the Repugs don't want people to go out and vote.

41. BBV.org elbows in on someone elses work again
First of all, applause goes to Ms. James for contesting the election,

but the "news" paper fails miserably in its journalistic duties -

The Atlanta Progressive doesn't bother to ask questions
like "who, what, when or where"

The Atlanta Progressive lets BBV.org accept credit for "revealing" someone else's work!

The organization BlackBoxVoting revealed this week that technology experts
have discovered the worst known security flaw ever in E-voting machines,
in the Diebold machines that are used in Georgia and one other state. (Developing...)
http://www.atlantaprogressivenews.com/news/0076.html

Summary: BBV.org reveals that someone else (that isn't BBV.org) made an important discovery that BBV.org had nothing to do with.

Why didn't BBV.org tell the Atlanta Progressive that it was Alan Dechert of
Open Voting Consortium who discovered the WORST known security flaw ever found in E-voting machines?

Atlanta Progressive Journal - here is a clue:

July 31, 2006
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA -- “This may be the worst security flaw we have seen in touch screen voting machines,” says Open Voting Foundation president, Alan Dechert. Upon examining the inner workings of one of the most popular paperless touch screen voting machines used in public elections in the United States, it has been determined that with the flip of a single switch inside, the machine can behave in a completely different manner compared to the tested and certified version.

“Diebold has made the testing and certification process practically irrelevant,” according to Dechert. “If you have access to these machines and you want to rig an election, anything is possible with the Diebold TS -- and it could be done without leaving a trace. All you need is a screwdriver.” This model does not produce a voter verified paper trail so there is no way to check if the voter’s choices are accurately reflected in the tabulation...
http://openvotingfoundation.org /

But this isn't the first time Bev dissed Open Voting Consortium (or others):
"Re: Bev Harris Trashed OVC at the Houston ElectionHearing"
http://gnosis.python-hosting.com/voting-project/July.2005/0026.html

Why didn't this rag of a paper contact the real expert who found and
documented the real flaw in the Diebold TS?

Seems like that would be more helpful to the citizens of Georgia.

A real journalist would have called up Open Voting and interviewed them about
the flaw that OVF found in the Diebold TS.
