Mideast Resolution Emerges:“A Major Victory For US And Israel”…
Mideast Resolution Emerges:
“A Major Victory For US And Israel”…

U.S., France OK U.N. Mideast truce pact By NICK WADHAMS, Associated Press Writer
6 minutes ago

UNITED NATIONS - The United States and France agreed Saturday on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution that calls for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah but would allow Israel to defend itself if attacked, officials said.

U.S. Ambassador John Bolton and French President Jacques Chirac's office confirmed that agreement had been reached.

Officials with knowledge of the document said the draft calls for a "full cessation" of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, but would allow Israel the right to launch strikes if attacked by Hezbollah.

But it does not call for an "immediate cessation of violence," those officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the draft had not yet been made public.

That appeared to be a victory for the U.S. and Israel. France and many other nations had demanded an immediate halt to violence without conditions as a way to push the region back toward stability.

1. It is a victory for Europe, not the US
Even if the US will paint it this way... the US did not want this, no way, no how...

This is NOT what the US wanted... and it will be a humiliating defeat for American Neocons... that is the bloody truth...

2. This means nothing if it does not call for....
"immediate cessation of violence". The current violence could go on for days, weeks or months. What the hell, "full cessation" of hostilities means nothing if it doesn't have to stop immediately.

3. Looks like a deal to continue the deadly airstrikes. Some victory
Look for the largest barrage of attacks from Israel (and possibly Hizbollah) to take as much out of their foe before any pending agreement. Look for the bloodiest period yet for the scattered citizens of Lebanon as Israel launches one more wave of 'shock and awe'.

7. Who will claim the other violated it first?
Who provides for the Lebanese defense? Who will be able to act militarily as Israel is allowed in the agreement in defense of Lebanese lives. So much of Israel's assaults have been borne by the unarmed Lebanese civilians. That won't change just because there's a peace agreement. Every 'defense' Israel has, and will exercise puts innocent Lebanese in their crosshairs. Who will defend the innocent Lebanese?

8. This resolution is meaningless.
Who cares? No one does. Israel doesn't. And its opponents shouldn't care either. It changes nothing. And no country will be sending troops to do Israel's work in Lebanon. Russia should vote against this.

9. If it leaves the door open for Israel to "defend" itself, it's useless...

since it's clear Israel's interpretation of being attacked or provoked is unique to them. The see aggression where there isn't any.

Not to mention it places all of the blames on Hezbollah by stating: " "calls for a full cessation of hostilities based upon, in particular, the immediate cessation by Hezbollah of all attacks and the immediate cessation by Israel of all offensive military operations.""

Israel invades another country, and somehow comes out of it bearing no responsibility. Whatever happens here, it will not help their relationship with their neighbours.
