bu$h visited the Cleveland area this week to survey the damage from flooding earlier in the week. This was a trip billed to help the people flooded out but in reality, bu$h was in the area to attend a fundraiser for the GOP candidate for Governor...
President Bush’s trip to Ohio Wednesday offered answers to a number of burning political questions, including: What does a former NFL star wear when he meets the most powerful man in the world? And, will a Republican park a Rolls Royce on wet grass to get a picture with the president?
About a dozen people, including Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell and former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar greeted Bush yesterday when he exited Air Force One at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
While everybody wore suits and dresses appropriate for a church service or wedding reception, Kosar stood at the end of the receiving line looking like he was about to head to happy hour at Shooters in the Flats, sporting an open Polo-style shirt and shorts.
The president, known for his casual style outside the White House, didn’t seem put off. In fact, he spent more time chatting with Kosar on the tarmac than he did talking to Blackwell, whom he had come to support. (Blackwell, however, got to ride with the president's limousine.)
Bush had initially scheduled the trip just to attend a fund-raiser for Blackwell. But after the recent flooding in Lake County, the president added a brief meeting with local emergency officials to add some gravitas to his trip.
Reporters following the president’s appearance at the fund-raiser were kept at a safe distance – they were sequestered in cabin-like structure more than a mile from the sprawling estate of Ed Crawford, the Kirtland Hills businessman who hosted the event.
